toasty!

I recently picked up this amaaazing heater on eBay ... and it is Awesome!

I think it is circa 1930s or 1940s ... Previously I was using some more recent one with a fan in it that blows the hot air out, and draws 1,300 watts.. yikes... So with all that blowing it was counteracting the warmth... plus this recent one only draws a consistent 330 watts! Keeps the legfeathers and talons from getting too cold... love this spiffy heater!

I doubt you'll really need it where you are! :O)

heh... well.. when it gets below 65F, I tend to get a bit chilly... and since heat rises, the top half of the room is tolerable, but from the knees down it's a bit brisk!

[identity profile] allaboutweather.livejournal.com 2017-02-11 06:14 am (UTC)(link)
That's what second floors are for. XD

[identity profile] c-eagle.livejournal.com 2017-02-12 10:33 am (UTC)(link)
Welll... maybe ;D ... but in my case, I'd rather not sit in the attic ... *wingfuzzles ya*

[identity profile] allaboutweather.livejournal.com 2017-02-12 01:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah. Only vampires sit in the attic. XD

I know what you mean, I have the same problem when it gets below about 10F.

*beak-gapes in awe*

[identity profile] whitetail.livejournal.com 2017-02-09 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Spiffy! Might be tough getting replacement parts for it, though. ;)

[identity profile] c-eagle.livejournal.com 2017-02-11 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
*nod* .. Here's hoping it never needs any :>
I've had a few space heaters over the years... we have a SuperLectric from the 50s or 60s in the bathroom.. it's one of those "fan blows out the heat" ones, but since it's an enclosed room, all the heat stays put and it warms up in there nice and fast for showers and baths *wagglefeathers*... Image These things are so simple they pretty much never die as long as you don't abuse them.

Oh, I like that! It's hard anymore to find one that just uses radiant heat without a fan. I ended up with a little propane-powered one.

[identity profile] c-eagle.livejournal.com 2017-02-11 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
Yep! I was even gonna pick a "radiant" one up from Staples brand new..! It says on their website Available in Store... but they are never there! ....oh! and yep, I have a propane one also, but it radiates Straight Upwards, so it's kinda lame and near impossible to get it to warm the leg feathers....

I love old heaters and fans like that

[identity profile] c-eagle.livejournal.com 2017-02-11 05:17 am (UTC)(link)
Ah yeah! You prolly like classic thrift shops too (like I do), and woulda loved that place I went to with the old cars and appliances I went to last week! (posted a video recently ..

Please do replace the woven cloth insulated power cable, those are not safe or sane....

Otherwise, WIN :)

[identity profile] c-eagle.livejournal.com 2017-02-11 05:21 am (UTC)(link)
Wellllll.. maybe! ;D
It's practically brand new... looks like it was stored and cared for well... Believe me, I checked it thoroughly on the test bench before giving it a pass... but I know whatcha mean, bud. That's the reason I passed on several before greenlighting this'n :>

Alas, me talons can sweat a bit.. so there's always a bit of a cooling effect with socks...

[identity profile] mondhasen.livejournal.com 2017-02-10 01:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Well that looks, er, dangerous ;o)

We have one at my brother's (formerly my parent's) house that has a copper shell. It looks equally dangerous!

ooooo! *quivers and peeks out ....* Um, gosh!... So far, no bites!
heh... yeah, Old technology can be very tricky.. not near as many protections as newer stuff... duzzen haff to be scary tho...:> and this example is so simple that it's easy to comply with its needs as long as ya just don't do anything kooky or careless... like leaving it on unattended, or placing it near flammable things, etc... basic heater etiquette :} *waggle* (and yes, keep my tail feathers out of it too....!)

I do gain the impression you have survived more rigorous climes than at present.. ^_^;

[identity profile] c-eagle.livejournal.com 2017-02-12 10:38 am (UTC)(link)
ooo, I do love your vernacular...! How often do we get to hear "climes" over here...? :D .. *wingfuzzles ya* ...
Indeed, I've traveled and run quite a range! .. Though specifically.. during all our growing up years, the family had *no* house heater except for a wood-burning fireplace, ... so sometimes in the morning we'd just sit by the open oven in the kitchen, instead of going to the trouble of stoking a big fire before breakfast.... :}

WOW, this old skool electric heater does indeed appear to be an amazingly awesome find! I've seen those modern parabolic dish radiant heaters in stores for a number of years now, but they're usually rated at 1000 watts. I'm impressed that ya found one with such a low power drain. By the way, if the electrical cord is bad and needs replacing, you can find new retro cloth cords in many electrical departments of hardware stores.

Ya know, I too have recently found two spiffy heaters. Last year I stumbled across a small 200 watt heater called the Lasko #100 MyHeat personal ceramic heater that I could only find on Amazon. They were priced really low so I purchased two - one for a bathroom and the other for under my computer desk. They do use a quiet low speed fan but don't have a thermostat or timer, so it's perfect for right at yer legs or body when yer at a desk or small room. The other heater I've seen this winter advertised on TV quite a bit and in many stores is the even smaller 350 watt Handy Heater plug-in personal heater. This model has two fan speeds, a thermostat, a timer, and is cordless as it plugs directly into a wall socket. This one I think would be really perfect for a bathroom as it would be off of the floor.

I think in yer case and definitely in mine, we both are saving quite a bit in gas bills by only heating the rooms that we're using at that moment we're there with low wattage electric heaters!

[identity profile] c-eagle.livejournal.com 2017-02-12 10:48 am (UTC)(link)
hey hey NEAT! .. Greta to hear your tales of heat as well!
I have one of those MyHeat Lasko things under my desk at work, although I rarely have to use it.

Indeedy, the power rating on the parabolic was a surprise blessing!... I was sorta expecting twice that. We also have an oooooold parabolic that stands about 5 feet high in a bathroom (it belonged to my mom) and it draws right around 400w. This little 330w one gets me so warm I keep having to move it further away from my talons :D .. have only used it about 3 times so far... power cord is in great shape too yep!

Good to hear of another person being careful with bills, yep.... all around the house and with most o' my stuff, I've found that a little TLC goes a long way... with making things last, and with keeping bills reasonable. The gas and electric are usually between $20 and $40 each / mo.
*wing hugs ya!*
