I sometimes use the exaggeration "An house is not an home" to illustrate the misuse of the article before the consonant "H", because arrogant newscasters and commentators tend to say things like "An historic moment" to sound like they know english better than the rest of us.... but I actually heard one say 'an house' just now on tv.... arrrgh! :P

An honor ... correct
An homage ... correct
An host, an hobnail, an hovercraft ... wrong

(the article preceding the H is guided by whether it is silent, and thus used as a vowel, or emphasized as a consonant)

peep!

*Laughs* You'd be surprised how often I hear an inappropriate silent 'H' around my church. Did you know we're supposed to be 'umble in the sight of God? It just sounds wierd! 'eh, 'eh, 'eh.

'ave the best

Heh...grammatical errors that drive me nuts are:

1. People who use "It's"(the contraction) where "its"(the possessive) is appopriate.

2. People who say "nucular" instead of "nuclear". It's a NUCLEAR reactor, okay?! It works by reacting atomic nuclei! There is no such thing as a nucule! ;)

I'm glad I'm not the only one who's bugged by that. XP
