I sometimes use the exaggeration "An house is not an home" to illustrate the misuse of the article before the consonant "H", because arrogant newscasters and commentators tend to say things like "An historic moment" to sound like they know english better than the rest of us.... but I actually heard one say 'an house' just now on tv.... arrrgh! :P

An honor ... correct
An homage ... correct
An host, an hobnail, an hovercraft ... wrong

(the article preceding the H is guided by whether it is silent, and thus used as a vowel, or emphasized as a consonant)

peep!

Heh...grammatical errors that drive me nuts are:

1. People who use "It's"(the contraction) where "its"(the possessive) is appopriate.

2. People who say "nucular" instead of "nuclear". It's a NUCLEAR reactor, okay?! It works by reacting atomic nuclei! There is no such thing as a nucule! ;)

totally!
That first one really is a problem a lot... oy!
Here's a fun page with LOTS of them compiled... http://www.wsu.edu/~brians/errors/

and nucular... egads! That is one of the worst ones, since we have a president up there plastered all over the news giving this bad example ALL the time... ;P
He MUST have people around him who can correct him... is he simply incapable of getting it right? Or unwilling...? bleah!! ;P
*scritches ya thankfully for your input*
