One of the few lil' extras I splurge on has been satellite radio, because local radio was such keeerap, and also it's good for long travel trips. but SiriusXM has gotten a bit too snooty (as of last year I hear) and would not give me a discount on a renewal promotion like they always have before, so it's just not affordable and I think I may discontinue the current plan and just put my old portable in the car, which has a lifetime plan (which I hear they also no longer offer as of last year). ;p

And, this month the cable company added a "sports channel fee" of $8 making the total of their meager non-24-hour service almost $100 for keeerap.. so today ChampionBroadband went byebye too and TimeWarner is on for about half the cost.

As if that wasn't enough, some weirdness happened today, when got a stack of bills from my ole doctor, for services two years ago! All this was taken care of within months of the service (as always) and so I'm guessing this was some sort of computer glitch... but *sigh*... still have to get it dealt with, so I wrote a letter to the Director of Billing and hopefully that will get some fast fix action.

Hoping all is well with y'all.... -bird

This sounds like a scam. I hope you have canceled checks and receipts or paid bills for all those services. Otherwise, you may be paying for them again.

Yow!

The roomie finally cancelled his subscription to the Murdoch Empire a year or so ago - we'd then been receiving their sorry DSL offering, as well as basic satellite service. Not hugely expensive, but I suggested that neither of us really watched that much new TV anyway, and that which we did could be covered under FreeSat, or just Usenet. (Can't miss Doctor Who, after all)

So, that's how it's been - FreeSat for the basic HD channels (as far as I'm concerned, all the BBC ones are all I need =:), and a switch to the incumbent telco's own FTTC offering (there are many better ISPs, but he pays the bills; and they've actually been surprisingly good, providing you don't have to contact them - around 40Mbps in, 8Mbps out), plus some use of get_iplayer to fetch recent BBC offerings, and Usenet for the occasional extra.

Music on the move, though, I've always left to local offerings - the iPad playing away through the headphones as we glide through the countryside on the silver rails. No risk of network interruptions, though I do have to make the effort to keep the selection fresh, helped by the iTunes freebie of the week, on both accounts.
