Writer's Block: Bitter aftertaste

This is the first one of these I've done, particularly because this is such an absolute.
I've learned one can't judge people entirely based on the music they like. At first you might think it's applicable, and I even wish it was something that could help with clues about a person, but it rarely does. It's really quite disconnected with the person within.
One grows up in a place and time with the music around them and the music they seek. This becomes etched upon their enjoyments, but as they grow, many more factors usually influence the person that they are. I've known several people who (amazingly) do not like music at all, and are very nice people. And others I know who like very different music from me, are also very nice and interesting people. And I know others who like similar music as I do, but with some I don't get along, and others I do... there doesn't seem to be a defining gauge to judge with, when it comes to music.
It goes without saying... it's definitely a bonus when you click with people who also like a lot of music you also enjoy, but unfortunately I haven't found any guarantees in this area. It *almost* seems that it's more likely folks who like similar "visual art" are more likely to click than people who like similar music, but there are still too many factors there that I am not sure...
So, I try not to judge people based on music :>

Date: 2010-05-28 11:41 pm (UTC)It just happened to be one of my first-ever records, and that particular record I do like a lot. Believe me, I don't clamor to hear Baby The Rain Must Fall... ;>

Date: 2010-05-28 10:53 am (UTC)Afterall, most furs listen to one of the following: Video game music, j-pop, metal or DnB/dubstep/trance/rave.
I do feel a certain kinship with people who share my taste in music, but I usually assume that people don't, and I don't mind that.
Even when I have someone over, it's nice to know what kind of music they like, so I can put something on that will please them, or at least not be totally alien to them :)

Date: 2010-05-28 11:47 pm (UTC)I used to think that also, but I've had too many experiences that show me it doesn't matter as much as I thought it did.
Like ya say, most furs seem to like them kindsa music, but even though the whole dance floor is into it, I might only click with half or 3/4 of 'em, so the music itself doesn't give me anything to go on to estimate personality. I'm not even that into the fur-dance style music or much of that other stuff you mentioned, but it isn't offensive to me, so I'm okay with it even if it's just background music to me.
I prefer music that I can sink my teeth/beak into... pop on the headphones and just climb into it, ya know? :>
I'll admit that there may be some personality connections sometimes with music, but I haven't found enough to feel that it gives me clues about whether we'll click or not. *peep!*

Date: 2010-05-28 12:38 pm (UTC)The best way to figure their personality out is...just to talk to them. Have a few conversations and see where it leads. But you've never seemed to have had a problem with that, C...you're one of the friendlier souls out there.

Interestingly enough, classical is nice, but it's not at the top of my list... but I do like that rock, bluegrass, indie, alternative, oldies, modern country, and a lot mo! *hugs*
