Macintosh Misery.
Jan. 28th, 2007 04:23 pmOkay, I finally did it. :|
After putting it off and hoping for help and solutions that I knew were out there somewhere, I reluctantly listened to the nudges of "just reinstall the OS to fix it" , to get my system 9 driver problems fixed.
And so now... it has fixed nothing, ...but I have to face the additional drudgery of manually fixing all my settings to what they were. -_-
Thank goodness for backups. I've gone down the high-hopes road before with Mac.
Yes it broke my desktop.
It broke my printers.
It broke my internet connection.
And who knows what else... *huge weary sigh*
And *still* it didn't solve the problem of drivers that can recognize the fact that I have only one monitor, and that I would like to use graphics programs, and put the machine to sleep instead of turn it off. I can do none of these, and reinstalling the OS did not fix it.
Yes, I use system X. Yes I am a part of the converted crowd.
But after using something (pre-system X) for some 15 years *because* of its appeal, I don't understand the widespread urge to diss it altogether just because something new comes along. Can't they exist together? They do exist together, and I don't see anything wrong with liking my Classic programs.
Eudora Pro, ...fast and text-based, effectively stopping spam and junkmail images that are unwelcome.
Muddweller, ...clean and capable and fast.
And so many other programs.
So yes I use system X.
But it is so disheartening that hardly anyone really cares about system 9 ... and trying to get it to work right. Guess ya really can't blame 'em. Still, it'd be nice if the simple answers to fix it, were easy to find... :/

yay!
Date: 2007-01-30 09:20 pm (UTC)Totally heartily agree with ya on the 10.3.9 declaration, dragony! ^V^ *wags*
Itsa sorta rhetorical fact, but true, since that isn't what's affecting my system, but indeed a fact that if all the people with whom I worked would upgrade to 10.3.9 or greater, or 10.4.5 or greater, many of their problems might be solved. *peep*
*wags to the fuzzlin'* Glad to hear a system 9 machine helps ya out sometimes ^V^ ... I'm sorta lookin' forward to the MacBooks down the road also, but I know it's down the road, since it's doubtful I'll buy any new (either for financial or foundational reasons) Apple products any time soon.... 8|
So you havion' probs with PS and Illo too? *wingpats gently*.. that's ouchy... -_-
Yeah, I'm either using CS on 10.3.9 or Elements on XP right now, until I can get those others running again.
I just tried another ATI installation last night, and it still didn't help.... getting "system components missing" errors, so I think I may need to locate a factory-system-9 installer disk.
