Okay, I finally did it. :|

After putting it off and hoping for help and solutions that I knew were out there somewhere, I reluctantly listened to the nudges of "just reinstall the OS to fix it" , to get my system 9 driver problems fixed.

And so now... it has fixed nothing, ...but I have to face the additional drudgery of manually fixing all my settings to what they were. -_-

Thank goodness for backups. I've gone down the high-hopes road before with Mac.

Yes it broke my desktop.
It broke my printers.
It broke my internet connection.
And who knows what else... *huge weary sigh*

And *still* it didn't solve the problem of drivers that can recognize the fact that I have only one monitor, and that I would like to use graphics programs, and put the machine to sleep instead of turn it off. I can do none of these, and reinstalling the OS did not fix it.

Yes, I use system X. Yes I am a part of the converted crowd.

But after using something (pre-system X) for some 15 years *because* of its appeal, I don't understand the widespread urge to diss it altogether just because something new comes along. Can't they exist together? They do exist together, and I don't see anything wrong with liking my Classic programs.
Eudora Pro, ...fast and text-based, effectively stopping spam and junkmail images that are unwelcome.
Muddweller, ...clean and capable and fast.
And so many other programs.

So yes I use system X.

But it is so disheartening that hardly anyone really cares about system 9 ... and trying to get it to work right. Guess ya really can't blame 'em. Still, it'd be nice if the simple answers to fix it, were easy to find... :/

"I still use OS 9 because of some software that would cost more than a new MacBook to upgrade. :)"

hehheh.. that's part of my point, really.. :>
We still use older stuff because it either makes sense somehow, or we like it, or we have to because it hasn't been updated.

Oh yes.. I like windows popping seprately usually too, but sometimes I'll use the single window method on Windows XP.. *waggles*

I am using a 800mhz powerbook, which a friend was kind to switch me up from my 667mhz one... the previous one had a speaker that had never worked, and a screen that had a bad flickery connection that got so it couldn't even be used.
I really liked that machine though.. adn the problems with this one are making me miss it very much.. ;_;
This one is nice and speedy, but these little nits it has kinda jab atcha, and the photoshop issue is pretty major. makes me wanna run to my Windows machine and hide.

I've seen the Savitar.. looks nice :> I also use Rapscallion, which is nice also.. but for bare bones quality features, Muddweller has it made pretty well.
Apple Mail... hmmm.. well, heh.. uh... It's okay. I bought this Eudora Pro though, and having customized it so much, it's like leaving my 1964 cherry cadillac behind.. so while I like the new Lexus, I'd sorta like to keep all my mail storage together if I can :>
...Right now too, I sorta wanna give it a spanking, as I just had to fix a broken Apple Mail program at that client's place, without breaking the system, and that took some careful stepping about in the garden of BSD goo..

wowwww... you purchased Eudora, and still they lumped you in with the ad-receiving versions? ;P That suxeth big time! *grrrr*
I have Eudora Pro version 2, and it's never balked that way on me... *sighs and patpats ya*

Well, I do use a variety of email programs as needed, if needed, like when one ISP requires a certain thing or not (one ISP *requires* Entourage, another *requires* a configuration I had to setup in Outlook Express, and I've used Pegasus, Outlook, and a few others on other systems also). Just sayin' my comfort level is highest with Eudora Pro... *fluffles plumage, and settles it all back smoothly with a beaky cheery smile* :9

As for breaking their systems, heh, sometimes it's carelessness, other times they just get a hit... like, some junkmail item that blows it up or somethin' :/
And most customers don't know how to use the Periodic Maintenance steps or how to fix permissions, even after I show them... 8|
I don't have many problems with my own system X stuff though, in case it seemed like I'm baggin' on it, cuz I'm not baggin' on it for my own home use experiences, and I s'pose I didn't make that clear enough to the readers...

I do think it's fine, but apparently in the text of a diary like this, saying ya like 9 at home can automatically imply that ya don't like X, even when you try to state clearly that you use both jes' fine alla time... eeep!
Mebbe sumday, peeples will unnerstand me ^v^
