But still, sometimes startling, and provide mixed feelings.
Like, watching a volcano erupt, or, watching a jellyfish swim, ....or, seeing a wild mountain lion trotting along in the road in front of you.

Yep, first time in all these years.... I've seen just about everything here, but tonight was my first puma sighting.

Wow... that thing was beautiful.

But..... I sure hope it's gone 8|

You didn't go and give the kitty a pat on the head? Awwww... leave out a bowl of milk to make up for your anti-social behaviour! ;D

Wow! I'm envious- I have yet to see one. They are beautiful animals, and I'm glad they're out there. But I know what you mean about mixed feelings- I'm always torn between wanting to see one and: please-don't-eat-me!

Wow-- that would certainly catch -my- attention! And keep me from dogwalking in that area for a long time. I still remember the cougar up in Ventura that leapt over an eight-foot fence, killed an 80lb male husky (sad!) and then-- dog in mouth, leapt -back- over the fence!

You might want to inform the local animal control near where the cougar was sighted: they can put out a warning to pet-owners about the danger (I know I appreciated knowing a big cat was in the neighborhood the last time one was sighted in my neighborhood!).

Cool that you were able to see a wild one, though!

Warning is one thing.. but some hot headed human with a gun might take that as a meaning to be a local hero and shoot it. *grumbles* People gotta learn... the more they encroach into land once claimed as cougar territories, the more encounters there will be. And it's usually pets, kids, and the cougar that are harmed.

*nodnod*.. indeed sir.. let the neighbor know, and the polices, just for their records.
and yeah, as for *any* critter left outside.. fair game :|
another friend of ours found both of her dogs killed by one... but she lives far further into the woods, on forest land.

I feel badly for your friend. I only have coyotes to worry about where I live (my yard is apparently the coyote-equivalent of the 405).

Fortunately for me (and Rondo) coyotes are wiley and with a high level of self-preservation, so they might chase a dog or harry him-- but they generally don't go out of their way to attack or kill full-sized dogs. There was even a young male coyote that used to court Frieda at times.

Wow! Wild mountain lion, after bear and foxes... you can open a wildlife park already. :)

But do be careful, though...

heheheh! so true... :D ....and we saw one of the biggest bears ever right at the same spot, the very next day! then the first antlered deer of the season, the day after!

just woodpeckers and hummingbirds today though :>
ooo, and a rat!

Puma!

Mmm. I adore pumas, dear friend! *grin*

It could be from my love affair with Michael Peak's 1992 novel Catamount, which featured its primary animal characters as a bald eagle and a puma.

*smiles*

Stay safe, of course! Not sure how close I would like to be to a puma in the wild! Eeeek!

When I was in high school I used to babysit for a kid on the other side of my rural neighborhood. On more than one occasion, my mom would call and tell me to make sure we were playing inside not out, because there was a cougar in the neighborhood. Then, when his parents got home, I would have to bike back home. At this point, I'm very glad the only cougars I've seen are in zoos.

(But if you really want to see one up close, go to the Sonora Museum outside of Tucson. The kitties like to sit against a glass wall on the north side of their enclosure, so you can literally be nose-to-nose with them.)

Have the best

Do you Pyu-ma? Or Poo-ma?

They are very rarely seen, that's a sign of good luck :D

The So Calif dialect is "pooooma", as far as I've been tolded, buddy.. :9
...but we refer to them as puma, cougar, or mountain lion, all interchangeably.. *wags feathers*
