nature can be beautiful
Nov. 5th, 2006 11:52 pmBut still, sometimes startling, and provide mixed feelings.
Like, watching a volcano erupt, or, watching a jellyfish swim, ....or, seeing a wild mountain lion trotting along in the road in front of you.
Yep, first time in all these years.... I've seen just about everything here, but tonight was my first puma sighting.
Wow... that thing was beautiful.
But..... I sure hope it's gone 8|

Date: 2006-11-05 09:37 am (UTC)You might want to inform the local animal control near where the cougar was sighted: they can put out a warning to pet-owners about the danger (I know I appreciated knowing a big cat was in the neighborhood the last time one was sighted in my neighborhood!).
Cool that you were able to see a wild one, though!

Date: 2006-11-10 05:02 pm (UTC)Fortunately for me (and Rondo) coyotes are wiley and with a high level of self-preservation, so they might chase a dog or harry him-- but they generally don't go out of their way to attack or kill full-sized dogs. There was even a young male coyote that used to court Frieda at times.

ooo, and a rat!
Puma!
Date: 2006-11-05 05:06 pm (UTC)It could be from my love affair with Michael Peak's 1992 novel Catamount, which featured its primary animal characters as a bald eagle and a puma.
*smiles*
Stay safe, of course! Not sure how close I would like to be to a puma in the wild! Eeeek!

Date: 2006-11-05 11:10 pm (UTC)(But if you really want to see one up close, go to the Sonora Museum outside of Tucson. The kitties like to sit against a glass wall on the north side of their enclosure, so you can literally be nose-to-nose with them.)
Have the best
