Why does the doctor still feel bad when the patient dies..?
it is a life.. and it scrapes at one's cognition, wondering if there was yet something more one could've done... -_-
In all my successes, there is the occasional torment, the loss of knowing you had the life in your hands, and held it, but it slipped away..
Today, I tried to salvage my dad's old computer..
They didn't tell me everything that they'd seen it do, and thus I was unprepared to do more.. I didn't know about the overheating... how long they'd been seeing it, and how bad it had gotten.. and how close it was to death.. :|
All I knew was that they couldn't get it to start up in almost a month..

..and I got it to start up.
A success, in some small way. It would have been great.. if only...

I began salvaging files. I saw over 1,000 in the documents folder.. I scooped them up as feverishly as I could.. transferring them to my drive. I began to feel confident. I had saved systems like this before..

And then a restart..

The patient never breathed again :<

*sigh*

I just wonder what would've.. ......well.. I, ..

i guess at least I saved a few.

I know how it feels when you try so hard to do something. Unfortunately, I also know how it feels to see a *human* patient die. Luckily, even though I had 3 crash on me at once Monday (1 with a cardiac infarction in progress) I saw no death. *hug*

Eeeeh.. I am sorry!
I hope that not all the files are completely gone, and that there is a back-up ;)
I lost a bunch of my art-files some time ago, I really cried! ;__;

>< Aww man, that sucks. I hate it when computers die. D: Was it the HD, or the power supply, or mobo? If it was overheating, I'm guessing mobo/power supply. o.O

Hmm. There are ways to get the information off even a dead platter, but I think you know this. I'm sorry to hear of your family's loss.

Have the best

*snugs* Rrrrfff. Frustrating as all get out, I know. At least you got some files moved. You're a good son.

Doctor.... Have you considered a hard disk transfussion. It is possible that though its brain is gone, it's memories can live on long enough in another host to transfer them to another healthy receptacle.

We can re-build him... faster... stronger... OSX-based. *Chuckles* But at least you were able to save as much data as you could, so it wasnt a total loss.

We used to fix our TV in the most bizzare way... it would play then the screen would go black... so we'd kick it and say "LIVE DAMNIT!" and sure enough, our threats made it keep living. X3

Oooh, that's similar to my Commodore's monitor, I'd slap it on the side HARD and it'd turn back on.
I still have it, I would love to get it fixed =P
