discoveries I've made recently has been http://www.anticapslock.com/
...where they have blazed the trail in saving us frOM THE evILS of cAPSLoCK! :D
One good friend here ([livejournal.com profile] sennard) actually wrote one I used for years, but it only worked on WIN95... I loved it though, and have been looking for another good one since .. *warble*

The one I have been testing is at http://www.taniwha.org.uk and it works great on the mac!
Hopefully one of those at the first site can help some of you out too...

take care!

It's rare that it's needed (at least for me), and far more often the button is accidentally grazed, causing a long row of undesIRED CAPITAL LETTers, like that. :/

Older (ADB) macintoshes had a typewriter style keyboard, wherein the caps lock could not be activated unless one consciously pushed it down into a locked position, thus, the caps LOCK.
Newer cheaper (USB) keyboards have removed this feature, and so if one never used caps lock, it's nice to have it disabled.
When I need caps, I usually just use the Shift key.

I never had that problem myself so it never occurred to me that it would be for other people. I use the shift key as well. Being able to program keys sound cool.
