...but still from the older machine :>
Good Gnus... DID get my ole machine back today! *flaps wings*
Been going over it carefully though, seein' what's different and all, hoping not to miss any steps putting it back together.

So far it looks like they
Updated my system to the most current Classic version. Ah well. I like to keep various working versions around for testing, so now I can't test on 9.1 anymore... but I guess it's not a world-comes-to-a-halt problem. (unless the system will crash or freeze more, ...I know this one I'm using now does on 9.2, but hopefully my iBook won't.)

They also took out the RAM expansion that I bought the day I got the machine, saying it's bad ole Kingston RAM. (I guess it's Viking that's the better stuff?) I thought the built-in RAM had been 128, but now it's showing 64, so that's a bummer. This is sorta immaterial though I guess, since I've *got* to get the expansion chip replaced, cuz the system takes 42-48 of it, and ain't no way I kin do anything with 16 megs spare ;P ...(nope, don't like running virtual memory slowness, and I like to keep a RAMdisk as a scratch disk to add speed and minimize HD wear anyway).

Many of the settings were wrong, but that's to be expected (set for Central time... odd!). Some of my panels and things are gone too, but those should all be in the backup :> *wags*

I think I'll refrain from putting my airport card back in until I get the RAM replaced.

The BEST gnus though, is that my cool store and the phenominal Apple did indeedy fix nearly everything for freeeee in this recall! *skreeee!* :D
Apparently it was due to a glitch in communication somehow, but with iPods and iMacs being sucha warm-fuzzy influence upon the company, they are probably being a lot more friendly when it comes to some PR moves like this.

I'm hoping I can get the RAM replaced with the lifetime warranty thing, but I still may need to get a new battery sometime. Best of the best though, is that I did get a new keyboard for just $77.77 ...wooohoo! Now I won't feel like it's just beating a dead horse, so to speak.... it's almost a brand new foal again!

Hopefully :>
...now to the backup-restore process........

Best Wishes! (and best to you, [livejournal.com profile] austin_dern with your similar situation working out, too...)

Congratulations on your computer repairs, C! I hope it serves you well. I did a format/reinstall on my machine about six months ago, and it did wonders for the machine =0)

What's that? O.o

Is it just for laptops or something because I never heard of this be for.
