Back.. :>
but the computer thing is sorta bad news/good news.

The good news is that I decided to get a new battery for an old machine I got for traveling.. and it's utterly amazing how good it is.. 8> ...over 3 hours in system 9, and nearly SIX HOURS in system X ! (thanks again, [livejournal.com profile] saharalion!)

The bad news is that I put my regular computer in the shop for a recall repair, which would hopefully be ready by the time I got back.... but.... they screwed up the order, badly. What was supposed to be a free repair for a bad part recall they were now telling me could be as much as $700 (in stuff I did not authorize) .. ;P

After a call to Apple, I *think* the issue has been resolved though... but I won't know until next week, and, I also won't have my machine back (and files restored) until next week either... so essentially I can't do much work until then... arrrrrgh >:|

Anyways, the trip was sortakinda okay...
Mebbe I can catch up on LJ by some time next week.

Waitaminute. They did a bunch of stuff to your computer, and want to charge you all that money?

You know what you can do, tell them that you do not wish to have their services, and demand your computer back. By law, they must return your machine, work paid for, or no.

It's weird that they did not contact you to request authorization. In cases where something had to be repaired that was not covered under warranty, the status web site would change to indicate that it was waiting for my authorization. Definitely look into it -- call customer service, be patient, polite, and firm, and they should be able to help you.

I haven't had any major issues with this kind of thing. Repairs that didn't fix the problem were handled by contacting them and getting the OK to send the machine back, but they'd always make it right.

I hear good stories and bad stories about them. Overall more good than bad, but no company is perfect. I think this can be worked out.

So far, my personal experience has overall been good.

So far everything seems to be going well, now that I've restored the apps and files (Photoshop starts up more slowly, and the floppy drive recognition takes twice as long.. but that's about it)...and even the memory they said was bad seems just as great as ever!

I now have more confidence about closing the lid again, and takin g it out on the road... and I've added a keyboard cover so I'm not worried about getting feathers underneath the keys or wearing the letters off again, too.. *warble*... And my Airport Express has boosted the signal, so I can use the wi-fi again too... *skreeee!*
