~ ... it connects us to moments, whereupon a song can bring back a memory...

~ ... it connects us to something inside, where a song can speak to us individually, and bring out an emotion or thought we need to contact, which may have been waiting for that very key, to open the door...

~ ... and it connects us to each other, for when a song becomes well-known culturally, we can all feel a connection to each other through it...

Of course, we Jellicle cats really appreciate music. It is sometimes known as the universal language. In "Have Spacesuit, Will Travel", one of the aliens 'speaks' in musical phrases (which the author writes out as musical notation.) In an episode of "Star Trek: Voyager", another alien race who has never heard singing before asks the question, "Why sing? Could you not communicate just by speaking?" I can not remember the answer given in the show, but I think one of the advantages is that it lends a depth of emotion that mere speech alone typically lacks.
