From what I've gathered so far, the storm was bad but diminished and zoomed through florida quickly after that initial devastating landfall. For most, the resulting power outages will be the worst inconvenience.
*nod nod whew...* I guess if it just means a bit of candlelight for a few hours for most folks, thank goodness for the blessing.... (and candles once in a while are nice...)
Long power outages are no mean thing in the 95+ degree Florida August weather! There's also the problem of scam artists and gougers, but the state legislature is trying to deal with those problems.
Still, overall, the inland areas escaped with minor damage. Orlando, for example, was a mess from all the debris blown around (and many signs and power lines were down) but it didn't get flattened.

I made it through just fine, but I'm on the other side of the world from Florida, so it wasn't much of an inconvenience besides Morticon and Argon not being around Spindizzy for a couple days.
