Yeah, MEK is fairly aggressive. Electrical lineman's gloves made from EPDM (ethylene-propylene-diene monomer) should hold up to it, but they're about $75 a pair, too. What're you doing with it?
ah... thanks for asking! Some sub-human cretin tagged my mailbox with graffiti. This had me slightly depressed for a few days. I went to the hardware store to get some remover(s), and also paint if need be. I picked up some eco-krud-kutter, which seemed to work ok in a demonstration area of the store. Just to be on the safe side, I also picked up the modern version of mek as a backup, on a hunch. And I'm glad I did. The krud-kutter didn't work nearly as well as it had on the store demo. I'd say it was maybe 20% effective. So then I hit it with the mek. WOW. That stuff was Completely Eliminated. However when I looked at my gloves maybe 15 seconds later, I noticed the fingertips were melted :D Luckily it must have happened after I finished, as I felt nothing and had no skin damage, but I did wash the residue off as soon as I spotted this.
In my experience, the 'environmentally responsible' stuff is basically a waste of time and money. It's a bit late now, I know, but if you're just wiping down graffiti, you can hold a rag with a pair of tongs. It's not a job that needs any real dexterity.
