It's been safe and sound for a few years, but it looks like LJ is going through one of its Unpleasant phases again... now with a banner up top saying essentially "Why don't you try the new version?" ;P

WELL I'VE BEEN THRU ALL THAT... NO, I WANT TO STAY WITH MY OLDER U.I.

I hope it is just a phase, otherwise viewing LJ could become a bit miserable, like if this is a preamble to a foregone conclusion. BUT I did send them a message so hopefully they are not planning on eliminating the previously pleasant viewing options.

How did you send them feedback? I may do the same. To me, a lot of the "charm" of the place is the "lo-fi" no-nonsense web site. I don't WANT something that has crazy embedded hypertext or automatically cross-posts to Twitter, or has dynamic loading of comments, etc.

I guess we should be thankful it's just a nagging reminder, instead of forcing things over after a two-month grace period, like happened with Google Maps, etc. ;-P

;_; ... *sigh* ... yep, I just went over to news.livejournal.com and posted my complaint publicly, hoping that would have possibly more impact.

You are seeing the nag too?
Another friend also noted that whatever they've done has also broken image uploads... whether intermittently or not I don't know.

They singlehandedly derailed their own platform back in 2007-2009 with dozens of gratuitous changes that literally no one asked for, and triggered a mass exodus from which it never recovered. Seems a new generation at LJ wants a rinse/repeat now. Big mistake...

I'm sure a lot of them went to facebook and twitter. :/

Yeah... that huge exodus (as Shetland Pony noted) happened a while ago, in multiple waves a while ago, as LJ messed with the system here, then eventually stopped and left it alone for a few years of calm and relief.

Mostly, yes. Furries had a huge, unified presence on LJ in the 2000s. Then, just as Twitter and Facebook were rising in popularity, LJ went and fucked with their user experience so hard that furs fled by the literal thousands to other platforms. The online furry scene has been fractured and balkanized ever since.

It's my fault, I'm sorry. Back in like 2005 they sold Permanent Accounts for a weekend and that includes unlimited image storage and I've been putting, like, a couple thousand pictures per year up in my photo space and now they need to drive people off to balance the server budget. Sorry.

I noticed they messed with my Friends page feed and limited the number of back-posts I could read. That REALLY sucked!

I literally can not tell you the last time a major platform revised their interface to something I liked better. It's uncanny. All I insist on is that there be something that I need to do often that's now easier, and they can't manage that. It's always the thing I used to do with one click is now four clicks.
