I got the first shot contributing toward communal herd immunity :>

I'd asked at my regular pharmacy a couple times and they said they've had trouble getting consistent supplies of the vaccine.
So I just happened to be at a different market yesterday. and I saw a booth for people to check-in for the shots.... Thought I'd ask them how it's going and what's the procedure.

Turns out they'd had two no-shows and that meant some extra thawed doses that would have to be tossed out, so they asked if I wouldn't mind sticking around a few minutes and I could have one of the abandoned doses.

It's the Pfizer one, but luckily it wasn't 70 below zero :D ... I just feel a huge relief to get the process started, albeit unexpectedly, though I've been in an approved group for a week or two.

I may not have mentioned this here, but among people I know who have had it, seems like it's around 50-50 whether they have a rough day afterward. As for me, no significant trouble at all, except for some slight fatigue, which might just be due to a rugged day at work the day before. In fact, my arm is less sore than when I got the flu shot last year. This is the first dose anyway... hopefully will be fine after the 2nd too. Also...

One thing I feel bound to mention is that how appalling it is to me that the medical/pharmaceutical industry doesn't feel it is important enough to emphasize that people should MASSAGE the area of the shot for 10-20 minutes or so, to help circulate the medicine away from the stab and into the body general, which reduces the possibility of lingering pain in the arm. For a few years now I've been doing that, and it definitely contributes to an easier aftermath. It might even reduce the chances of having a bad day, but on that one I can't b as sure as the basic fix of reducing the subsequent arm pain... but it's worth considering.
If that information can be of any help to you readers here, then at least it's done some good.

Cheers and good health to ya!

Hooray for the jab! Did they make your second appointment for you?

Thank you! I’ll remember that for future shots.

hooray! *hugs in wings*
Innnnnterestingly enough, they said they don't make appointments there, I still have to make one online... or, I can just try another walk-in when the week rolls around for the 2nd shot. WHICH is probably what I'll haveta do, since I check online for appointments and the bookings look full!

Yay! Now I'll be able to find you at cons since I downloaded the tracking software from Microsoft. *grins* I have heard there huge disparities in distribution across the country. Centers are empty in Louisiana while all slots are full in CA.

Ya unknowingly became what's called a "vaccine hunter"! There are web logs and web sites devoted to it and devotees who will camp out in front of distribution centers or pharmacies every day hoping to take advantage of the 10% or so of no-shows who simply don't show up to their scheduled appointment. Then there's YOU, who just strolled into a different supermarket pharmacy and nonchalantly asked the staff "how it's going and what's the procedure"!! What great luck AND good for you!!! Another great thing is now yer automatically scheduled for yer second dosage of the vaccine, so no worries about YOU having to schedule online or by phone OR hunt all over town in two weeks for left over vaccines.

haha.. WOW... I didn't know that was a "thing"... but thanks for letting me know! *Waggle*
I did read about the stuff needing to be tossed after it is thawed (if not used), so I guess it worked out well all around!

They did say I wouldn't be 'definitely' scheduled for the 2nd because it was a walk-in, but I'm fairly confident I will be able to find it when the time comes... I hope!

No, I didn't see this at all. I'm very bad about keeping up with stuff anymore. Sorry about that. Good that you lucked into that, and good that they gave you Pfizer. I was feverish last night after my second shot of Moderna, but it's much improved now.
