Under the mundane category, 2 quick notes

Bought a cabin filter for the car a few months back at an auto parts store, and it was $33 .. came in a nice box, good filtration... Maybe too good. With all the fires in the area, decided to change it again since the A/C seemed like it was blowing at an under par strength. Got a new filter at the dealership... $28 ... $5 cheaper! Since when is something cheaper at the dealership? :D .. Maybe because it didn't come in a fancy box. A/C is blowing much better without a doubt.

Had a customer the other day who is using the cloud-based Adobe products. Last year's offering had been working fine, but apparently some of the newest files cannot be opened except with the very latest version.... but, it would not even load after the install, so he called me to fix it. Turns out Adobe had a goof-up year with this latest installer... it leaves at least 6 hidden permissions set incorrectly (on the Mac) and cannot run. Seems like they would send out a fix or at least document it online since this has been a problem for several weeks.

Not a whole lot else to report, except that it would be nice to find a perfect additive to modern-day-gasoline to get it to STOP fouling carburetors ;P

I found that my local Toyota dealership's parts department has equal or lower prices compared to the big chain auto parts stores on commonly needed products like air, cabin, and oil filters, as well as engine oil, spark plugs, and windshield wiper inserts when I take advantage of promoted sales OR print out discount coupons they provide on their web site.

What name brand of gasoline do ya usually get? The brand makes a BIG difference according to automotive experts, engineers, mechanics, and 11 automotive manufactures. They say you should always use "Top Tier" approved gasoline that contains detergent additives that burn more efficiently while cleaning the combustion chambers of yer engine. These "Top Tier" brands of fuel usually cost a bit more but it is worth it considering that eventually yer gonna be paying a mechanic to clean out the deposits. The two "Top Tier" brands of gasoline that are amazingly much less expensive than the big national companies are ARCO and Costco/Kirkland. I pretty much exclusively fill up at Costco since I have found them to be THE cheapest (equal to non- "Top Tier" Sam's Club) gasoline in any given area.

Thanks for the note, Scruff! Yep, I use Arco and Chevron Top Tier a lot of the time. And I also tried a Lucas additive that a friend uses to try to help. Notta lotta success yet... :P

...and oh yes! Always long lines at the local CostCo :D .. I guess lotsa people know where to go for the value!

Perfect additive to today's gasoline -> for every 1 part of today's gasoline, add 99 parts gasoline formulated in accordance with standards from 30 years ago. :P

I was ranting just yesterday about "cloud" stuff. I had a bunch of stuff from Cakewalk since that's what I grew up on with my Atari ST and I was happy to continue to give them money. In the mid 2000s they switched over to virtual software and activation codes. Fortunately when they recently became insolvent, somebody bought rights to maintain all their stuff online, but I kinda miss the security of having an actual piece of media with the software on it. In fact I asked for this and they were unable to provide it, even back in the day. :P

Wow, Cakewalk was a victim of this absurdity too? Well.. good to hear it was rescued, in a way....

To be honest I'm not sure what drove Cakewalk into the ground but this happened a year or so ago. I guess their SONAR product line ultimately wasn't that successful vs. others in the industry, which always baffled me because it is CLEARLY technically superior to almost all the others, and they bundled some really decent effects and soft synths with it. But it just wasn't well known... maybe that was largely it in itself... no well-known producers had youtube videos of it. :P

The people who bought it weirdly made it "free to play" although there were a few perks given to those of us who gave the company $1000+ in product costs/upgrades over the years. :P

I haven’t had issues with our gasoline here, in the vehicles at least. I use both Sea Foam and Marvel Mystery Oil in my smaller engines, as well as Stabil (mostly for storage), because ethanol wreaks havoc with them.

I've heard some good things about them!.. though the YouTuuube review collection is mixed. I also tried Heet recently, and I'd have to say it's inconclusive: with one car the problems was a fouled plug so the Heet couldnt fix that, and the other car keeps getting the idle jets jammed... and the Heet hasn't cleared it up... dunno if it's another thing beyond its abilities. I wonder if the Stabil is what I need, because a tank of gas might remain in that car for 6 months or so, even though I start it up every week.

I threw a can of Sea Foam in the truck tank back in April for that reason. I can’t say it helped anything as it was more preemptive than anything else.
