I built one of those car protector rigs... sort of a glorified tent, consisting of a tarp, some metal and wooden posts, and tied-downs with augers.
For a while I've been wanting to add some shade and try to keep the car(s) a bit cleaner when parked, so we'll see how well it does.
The last tarp-attempt did not go well, mostly because it was huge and also not secured at every grommet.
This one is half the size and secured about as tight as I can imagine, so I hope it holds up, and when it rains, I hope it will drain instead of becoming an above-ground lake (built an angle into it so here's hoping...)

I purchased one of those a couple years ago but kind of chickened out installing it as I'm not sure how well they handle snow load, which around here is a problem. In any case I would be interested to hear about your experience with it and how it works out!

Yeppers, I'd guess you would need quite a taper on the 'roof'... this one I made has just a slight angle to it for water drainage, but it does not have a centerpole support and thus it is more of a "lean-to" style single flat surface. Overall cost:
$30 wood pieces
$5 screws and corner padding
$40 for the 12x16 tarp
$15 metal posts
$5 securing rope
$10 augers

That's $105 and a few hours labor :>

Ahh... I got a commercial one which has steel(?) tubing sections. So it does have a pretty good slope, and "probably" would be fine, especially if I knocked the snow off. Buuuut....
