It's been nearly impossible to use LJ during the day, those few times (like now) that I've tried...
Pages just take forever to load, and sometimes don't at all... and I've even paid for the service... ;P
Currently the only added benefits seems to be the extra icons, and redemption of LJ codes, which hopefully I'll get around to doing soon....

...and hopefully they'll fix the server lag and page-generating issues soon too. erf.

There is no longer a "fast server" advantage to being a paid member. Several people have griped about paid member status no longer being worth it, all you get are features that most people never use.

Indeed. Some data base cluster stability would be much appreciated.

They are really riding a huuuge wave of users now. I gather they are growing at a breakneck .com speed, that's tough to manage.

In fact, this post attempt went thru like 5 times... turns out it was posting each time, but their software wasn't returning the confirmation.

Also, it looks like a recent addtion was that now they seem to add "Re:" automatically to the beginning of a subject line in a reply.
Well there's a whole lot of wasted programming time... :P

Honestly... I really just wish it worked *faster*...
That would satisfy like 98% of my needs anyway...... :>
As for 're:' ... welllll.......... doesn't REally stoke my campfire, ya know...?

Yeah, LJ has been pretty slow. :( Unfortunately the way the whole system works now (as opposed to a year ago or so) dedicated paid-user webservers would no longer make a noticeable speed difference.

But what page-generation issues are you referring to? Please let me know, so I can report it to the developers.

The "Re:" problem in comment subjects has already been reported.

It's always helpful to hear those details as you present them... :>

The page-generation thing goes like this....
Sometimes (yesterday especially), one posts in the POST COMMENT button, and then the browser reports on the progress... 'contacting LiveJournal, entering domain, etc.'
In this situation, the "your comment has been posted successfully" page never appears... instead a loop of 'contacting LiveJournal' keeps appearing over and over, even though (in THIS case) the post was posted successfully. Some other people's posts get eaten, but this was the opposite effect, where the post was not eaten, but never acknowledged.
That is certainly a better error than getting one's post eaten... as I've experienced in the past too, but luckily very rarely.

Comments or entries getting eaten are almost always the fault of the browser (mostly IE) rather than LiveJournal's. While it is true that LiveJournal often has connectivity problems and a connection may get interrupted, normally browsers allow you to go back and just re-submit the comment. IE, however, does not restore the text you entered in the text fields when you go back. If you do not wish to switch browsers, perhaps at least a downloadable client may be useful to alleviate this problem in the future, but downloadable clients allow you to post only entries, not comments.

I have downloaded a client (Phoenix) but I haven't tried it yet, since it seems like I'd have to still use browser interface as well.

Most of the time my browser (iCab) does indeed maintain the comments I type in the form boxes, when I hit the Back button. On rare occasion though, the text is not there, but that is very very seldom, and I'm not sure why.
