Some of you might recall that I delved into a 'smartphone' a couple of years ago when VirginMobile offered a smartphone plan for $35 .. the service was great, but oft I've commented how the phone is HORRID. This Kyocera Rise was plagued with random restarts, crashes, inconveniences (like deciding to shut the audio off spontaneously so I don't get calls or notifications), ..and just about the world's most awful camera too for bad measure.

Two years ago I'd had a dumbphone text/call plan with MetroPCS before, and they were ok at $32 ..but for $3 more I was wanting to try the bit of a telecom upgrade.

Now MetroPCS is back with a $30 smartphone plan... so while I was slightly hesitant to leave VirginMobile, I reeeeeally hate that phone..... and... Metro is also giving a $50 credit this month towards a new phone and no transfer fees or anything... plus the Metro is 4G and Virgin is still 3G, which is basically like dial-up.

SO! ... The new phone is the Alcatel/Lucent Fierce 2 .. *tailwags* ... So far it's been amazing... though these Galaxy-size phones are a smidge larger than I really like... hopefully it won't be too unwieldy ... woot!

Galaxy Class! I have a Maxx phone that is about the of your Fierce (if one includes the Otterbox). This is my first 'smartphone' and I'm still not used to its own unwieldy size ;o) I use it primarily to text/tweet/message/photograph.

I am still quite happy with my Galaxy Note 1. Newer models are just a smidge too expensive... I need an unbranded, unlocked phone after all.

I've got ... um ... a phone.

(What I really need is something that does data, with the occasional voice call, but of course nobody offers that because that's what everybody in the world wants and needs.)

Make sure to get a case on it. I got a Galaxy 3, but no case, and the first time I dropped it, crack city.

I used to have Virgin Mobile service. I didn't have too much trouble with the phone but cell reception was terrible at the office. So I switched to AT&T GoPhone and a Nexus 4 phone. (and later, upgraded to a Nexus 5) More expensive than Virgin Mobile, but to be able to use it everywhere I go is a good thing.

Well alrighty then :)

My iDammit 5 is too small for my not 21 year old eyes. When it comes time to replace it in a year or three, I"ll be looking for a much larger screen.

Can I send you pics and stuff now, or is that +$? Also, can you PM me your #, I need to make sure I have your current #.

CYa!

I hope you have better luck with this phone, I'm no good giving ideas for phones I tend to either be given them or buy them outright so I get what I'm after. My current phone is used more as a tablet as it only has a data plan and I use skype out to call others. *fuzzles your feathers* (Oh and it's a Galaxy note 3)

Zigackly! It's been a frustrating couple years, with phones getting ever larger, larger, larger. I miss my iPhone 3G - not its specs, true, but the fact that 3.5" made for a perfectly handlable display. Hold it, and your thumb could reach anywhere on the screen. Now, with the iPhone 5s, I'm stuck having to shift it up or down to reach the edges, and its successors are even worse!

Bah, humbug.

Does your porch have a spare rocking chair? We can jointly ensure the kids stay off the lawn. =:)

/me gives you a new Sith light saber cane to waggle at those kids, it's much more effective than the old bent hickory stick models :P

I'm happy to trade the larger awkward size for fonts sizes I can actually read.

The original iDammit dimensions were specified by Jobs for exactly the reasons you've covered - you can reach all the screen area with your thumb.
