Remember a time when on LJ everyone would say, "Hey! Put it behind a cut!"

Now on Tumblr, it's like "Hey! it's all out there, and noone cares anymore!" .. It's like on Tumblr the acceptance level is in reverse... we "expect" there to be no cut... so.. that just makes me wonder why it's a big deal here and noone even thinks about it there?

Not sayin' Tumblr's bad, but it just looks like a double-standard to me... or am I missing something? :9

Yeah what you said :D

There's a few artists there I look at occasionally, otherwise, no thanks...

It's not a double-standard, it's a different standard for a different audience. LJ was created when bandwidth was still precious in many places, and has an older user base whose etiquette rules were made from a different set of assumptions.

FWIW, I think the LJ community, whatever's left of it these days, would be just fine relaxing about the whole "put it behind a cut" thing. In 2014 bandwidth is cheap, and scrolling is not that hard. ;)

Mm, there’s not all that very much need for cuts - even Back In The Day, the only times I’d feel one might be a good idea would be if I were including several large photos in a row, or perhaps particularly wide ones, liable to break people’s friends page’s formatting.

For some reason, I’m now thinking I need to include a poll in my next entry.. quite probably of an ethanolic nature. ^_^

I used them a lot with videos, because no one wants a video to autoplay on them somewhere deep in their friends list.

Ah, fair point. I wound up disabling autoloading of embeds a while back, as just the loading of the initial view was proving somewhat laggardly. Maybe I'll re-enable that sometime, though I suppose it's still useful when I'm reading LJ on the iPad when out and about, to help conserve bandwidth that's sometimes a bit sluggish.

Different cultures, I think.

I've never been able to figure out Tumblr. The site seems to have no navigation features at all. Maybe I'm just old.
