I can hardly believe it... suddenly FOUR of the things LJ had broken are working again in my older version of Firefox! ....
1) I can view comments
2) The icons load
3) I can update (like I'm doing) without a page-draw fail, and
4) clicking buttons work without having to Tab-Enter instead !
WOW!!.. Did LJ roll back code, or actually do some TESTING for a change?? :D

I would have "working flawlessly" but there is a new glitch... I can't do carriage returns while typing (right here and now in fact, have to use BR and P html codes)... and the input field window goes waaaaaay too far to the right... but at least those other things working are small victories! ... I wonder how long it'll last... LOL!

p.s. I was just reading an article about how bad the Code was for the first obamacare site rollout.. and it sort or echoes the entire coding problem these days... CRAP code and largely due to CRAP webkits being in use now, ushered in by the Google/Apple era... Most of the legacy of Learning and USefulness in code has been tossed out in favor of new, untested garbage... the only goal to make things look like a tablet interface.. with all other bets off.. ;P

Hopefully some sanity will return to coding soon.. but probably not before a few more jillion disasters....

I still wonder what's up with LJ on your computer! I never really had any issues whatsoever, in all the years I use LJ, aside from sometimes the site being offline or slow. I used to use IE until several years ago and now use Firefox, which I update every few months. LJ works 100% currently.

I may have asked once before, C, but what is the deal with the old Firefox? Aren't they up to version 25 these days? Why are you still using version 3?

At my job we tell users to update to fix issues where the site and browser aren't working in tandem/harmony. Are there scripts or patches to work with FF3 since its no longer being updated directly by Mozilla?

I'm just kinda curious.

Heya!.. Thanks for asking!

Welp, in my vocation, I deal with dozens of customers who have dozens of computer configurations, and it's part of my job to stay tuned into what works, old and new. To this end, I frequently use as many configurations as I can, as often as I can, to know what works and what doesn't, before I'm on a job and in the hot seat. That's how it works in this biz ^v^ .. So I regularly work on XP, Vista, Win7, Win8, Linux, and osX (back to Tiger) in order to stay up with things. (I don't get calls for systems much earlier than that, though I do have older systems in case I have to prep for jobs on them).

So while I check LJ and other sites from newer incarnations of software too, it's a matter of notation for me to know which, in the older systems/software maintains or breaks backward compatibility every so often (and happily, what also starts working again, even if rarely, like LiveJournal). Systems and interfaces with the Greatest backward compatibility can attain the highest usability and widest audience, so... while shortsighted programmers/administrators often march straight ahead with no regard to losing customers by forcing everyone to have the latest stuff for things to work right, the smarter teams retain backwards compatibility (and therefore customers) for a longer period of time, and also maintain a higher level of loyalty from customers who don't need to sacrifice productivity every few days or weeks just to paly ball with the very latest stuff.

In summary, I use the latest stuff a lot of the time, but it troubles me, both in regard to work and in principle, when I see something that worked well, no longer supported... and in LJ I just make a journal of it every so often to share notes with friends too, since LJ is an interactive diary ^v^ ...

So yep!.. I hope that helps explain it a bit :9 *tailwags*

Congrats! I am glad to hear you have the LJ back working for you, and nice to see you posting again. I know, right... those newer codes and layouts, I don't even know who give the "go" that allow those monsters loose on the internet. ...Have you see the new yahoo mail layout? Monster, I tell you. x_x
