It's gonna take a biiiiig wallet to do do a "for real" production, sigh... I'm sure the talent is out there, and a good script can be created, but since so much has been exported over seas or digitized or both, it's going to take an exceptional person to bankroll a made in USA 2D production with nor guarantee that the film will ever make a profit.

Blargh...

urf...
yeah. :/
Dat's one o' the things we talk about in our circles of pondering..
..that and how even if people ramp up and learn 3-d stuff, the execs and trend projectors are sayin' that stuff will be overseas by the next couple years too...
And then I just heard that the Florida 2-d of Disney was completely shut down too.. when many of us thought they'd have a bigger staff than the Burbank one.. guess not.

rarrr.

he is based right over here in Burbank again, and still considered to be one of the tools the company can use for now, so last I heard he has a couple projects that he is working on for them.
I don't know if he has an exclusive contract, disallowing major external creative works, but chances are it's set up that way.
With any luck, something of the calibre of Lilo or LK can come of it, but there may be lots of requisite CGI.. which could be good like Nemo, but who knows where it will be done...

Yeah... it is kind of good news I guess. 2-D animation did have a unique quality that I really missing seeming, but it does have another unique quality where it does take a lot of money to make. Actually... nowadays, everything all takes a lot of money... e_e
