Have you tried installing and using an alternate browser just for LJ?

This one was not a browser, it's a legit SL server side problem.

Varnish is amazingly powerful and amazingly tweaky/sensitive and prone to splosions when tweaked wrong (which is amazingly easy to do :)

In this case I suspect varnish servers were having problems communicating to the LJ back end databases.

Of course, the latest DDoS came at precisely the wrong time for me.. =:/ End of the day, with a couple quiet hours to catch up on LJ, including actually replying properly.. still, these things fade away quickly enough, so it's not a tremendous inconvenience.
