Many of ya may have heard, but the next phase of poison LJ is trying on us is the re-working of the Friends Aggregating Page... I know they say you can toggle it, for now, but I'm reluctant to even try that..

If they truly kill LJ some day, I guess I'll be trying that Dreamwidth site.. and hopefully people will go there, otherwise I'll have a whoooooooole lot more time on my hands in life...

In recent years the battering upon LJ by its own coders and management has done this to my readership:
2010 = 11,000 views
2011 = 8,000 views
2012 = 5,500 views

I'm sure the genius VPs are trying to say Facebook and Twitter are the real reason for their losses, and perhaps a bit... but personally I (and many others who comment in the News section) are pretty sure it's the dissing of their own participants here.. by Not Listening.

For now, I'm gonna stick to reading the Friends Page the way it works as long as I can...

http://makovette.livejournal.com/statistics ... :9 ... and to be specific, those yearly numbers were not entire year numbers, but relative highest-month-per-year numbers, so the ratio is validated that way... Enjoy!

Hear hear! I hate the new layout they introduced. My friends' page is setup to read in a style I chose that I find easier on the eyes. Ugh, LJ is scaring away their customers. :-P

It is rather interesting, how "marketing" and "marketing research" helps a company totally lose their customers. There are those of us who are still happy about LJ - so naturally, we must want it to look exactly like the alternatives we try to avoid. You really would need an advanced degree in marketing to understand such twisted logic.
I have seen the new "version" of the friends page... and switched back immediately. Reasons: 1.: it ignores my chosen style settings, 2.: it has ugly-ass-huge buttons, 3.: it is a non-stop-scroll thingy, not a nice page by page view.

I'm not a fan of LJ's new "Friends Aggregate Page." *shivers*

I tried out the new Friends Page look last night and browsed through it for a bit. But then I switched it back to my old settings as I liked my original setup from before.

I read the comments/feedback to the latest news release announcement. It looks like the majority of the LJ fans (who are still left in this place) disliked the new Friends Page layout with a passion.

I hope LJ listens to its user base and stop mucking around with configurations and settings that the users do not want.

It's sad to see that frequent, regular LJ users are a dying breed. The majority of my friends' list no longer posts regular updates. Everyone has moved onto other social networking sites and mediums. Eeek!

In many cases people moved on to Twitter and repeat their twitter posts here - but as they never read LJ anymore they never see the comments or reply to them.

I have over a decade of personal history on LJ. There isn't even anything to transfer that to.

I think it's more of a focus on the Russian market than the US market, along with the rise of Facebook.

I'm not sure at all abotu the new friends page; the things I thought it would do from looking at the interface it's not doing. Those would be an upgrade. :P

Not to help spread chaos, but this subthread of the new-released announcement page is filled with nothing but ominous:

"By the way, soon we will cancel the paid accounts." "More to the point, and it is not until the spring, we'll explain in detail."

No, I don't know what to make of that either. Neither does anyone else at the moment I write this, though.

I didn't renew mine anyway. Didn't see the point.

Those numbers are interesting. I know I personally use Wordpress more now, because I like its editing and organizing features better. I'll be said if LJ ever does finally go away though, I've had this account for over 10 years... kinda scary!

I'm thinking of downloading and saving all my LJ posts and matching comments before the site crashes and burns. I don't want to lose all that history. Do you recommend any specific tool to archive LJ journals?
