I just got off of a chat with a SanDisk SSD rep, and they are suggesting a reinstall of Windows ;P

Easy enough, but I *dread* having to spend more hours on this doing that, not to mention the reconfiguring of everything... *sighs*...

Still having the sleep/wake problems with the Sandisk SSD (freezes or bluescreens)... no firmware or driver updates available..

So, I could 1) reinstall Windows, 2) workaround the issue by just never letting the laptop sleep anymore (full shutdowns only), 3) or take the blarn-durn Sandisk out and just use it as some sort of external backup or transfer drive..

That's the updated report so far, kiddies.

hehe... *wingfuzzles ya* .... I guess mebbe we disagree a little on that then (unless just haven't 'splained mahself 'nuff to be coherent of the whole thang.. here goze..)

When it comes to software upgrades, in my experience I've found there to be a short latitude for change in relation to hardware.. For instance, you can upgrade systems and software for a while, but after a certain amount of time, newer software just bogs down older systems... so, my philosophy is that after a few years, it's best just to upgrade hardware, rather than try to run newer software on older hardware. I'm sure the manufacturers like this outlook too (to fill their coffers), but alas, I've found they kinda have ya cornered.

This system is nearly 8 years old, with a 110 gig HD, and an AMD cpu. I don't think it's worth pushing it too far into say the Windows realm (like installing 7 on it), although Ubutu might indeed be a better option,.. but in the long run, there isn't too much more I can push into this system. As for future/other OS'es, yep.. I am running Win7 on newer boxes (other boxes), but I was just trying to see if I could squeeze a liiiiiiiiiittle more speed/space out of the HD on this ole lappy... :> *wags*
Thanks for the input.. I hope that helps a bit on my approach to this ole vista box, but yeah... just with regard to this box specifically... :}

Ah ok, I didn't know it was a fossil :D

Before you buy anything new, please post here or ping me in email or phone. I have some ideas that can help you get the best value for your investment.

And bummer on San Disk issues. I stay with Intel and Samsung for that exact reason. Consider returning it if you can perhaps.

Yeah... I yam indeed considering taking it back.... though after Atkelar suggested defragging it, I was amazed I mean AMAZED to see how much disk space was recovered on it.. as I never see that with HD defragging... got like 15 GIGS back!! took about 8 hours though.. heh... whew...
It seems a tad peppier, but I haven't tried the sleep again to see if it's licked that problem, and I don't know how to set the TRIM you suggested, because the interface looks different from the way it's described for Win 7 ... (there are about 7 or 8 parameters)

But yeah.. .. funny how the different shops have different brands on thios item!... Fry's had this Sandisk, Staples had the Kingston, and I saw Intels in Best Buy today.

I am contemplating just doing the shutdown thing all the time... but mebbe I'll re-test the sleep function ...
