Thanks for sharing! I'm really curious to see the con someday, but on the other hand I'm wondering if it's worth going. I know you live close but what do you think about people traveling from far to see it? I heard it's really expensive?

It's the Greatest Show On Earth for nerds, fans collectors, etc. You really need to go at least once. It's impossible to describe what amounts to a convention larger that many cities, with interests as wide-ranging as you can imagine.

Aside from the usual travel expenses (airfaire, transportation, etc.), you can do SDCC for cheap(er). If you don't mind taking the shuttle bus into the con, there are hotels that are fairly inexpensive (about $100/night) that are located a few miles away (the shuttle is free and takes about twenty minutes to get you there). And there is the age-old crashing on someone's hotel room floor...

Food: if you get food in the convention center, a burger wil cost you about $10...but if you go outside there is the entire Gaslamp District of San Diego within a short walk where you can get typical cheap fast food of all kinds (and some very reasonably-priced specialty food, too!).

Membership: For you, FREE! Seriously. SDCC offers free memberships for industry professionals. I'm not sure exactly where you work, but I -think- it's in animation: animators and illustrators (comics, animation, etc.) and other professionals (writers, special effects, etc.) are offered free memberships (plus a free companion badge). You have to jump through a few hoops (follow their instructions -exactly-), but...FREE! Basically you provide proof that you are a professional (credits on projects, pay stub, 3rd party websites that show your involvement, etc. and they look at that and determine if you qualify. They're a little stricter these days (in the old days, even a secretary at Disney or Marvel Comics could get a "pro" badge), but I'm pretty sure you qualify.
