Long term: start looking for a dog. Tons of fun looking, seeing, considering the possibilities! And getting one: a whole new world of fun.
Short term: -- Road trip! To nowhere or to someplace you think is interesting, but too far to casually visit. (my roadtrip list includes the tar pits near McKittrick; the trilobite shale near Needles; Calico ghost town (Bode, also); Gold panning in the San Gabriel East Fork; hiking up Mt. Pinos with the dogs; Huntington Beach dog beach, more dogs things, etc.)
-- Doing something slightly illegal, but harmless: searching out abandoned places and exploring; sneaking into the La Brea Tar Pits and stealing acquiring some tar (<--messy!); exploring the Nike missile bases in SoCal.
-- More prep, but cool: Model rocketry! (<-- safe now because of the rain); getting a GoPro camera and finding things to video; Geocaching; metal detector stuff; breaking out the Night Vision equipment (needs night...); gardening-- great time to plant in SoCal (<--means trip to nursery, which is part of the fun).
-- Less effort: go to dog park and dog/people watch. Ask a few people at the beginning about their dogs, tell them you came to the park to see what the different breeds are like (this way the regulars won't glue their beady eyes on you the whole time-- people at a dog park w/o a dog are often under suspicion unless they have a reason to be there). Google-drifting: Google image searches for obscure things you had wondered about and where that drifting (following other interesting links) leads. Photo shoot (interesting place, take pics).
At least, that's what -I- would do if I had anything like free time!
I've been doing a few, and others sound intriguing! A few lil road trips here and there have been slipping into the plan, absolutely... just a few.. and hopefully more as I get a better grip on my schedule... I do want to take longer ones also, very much so ^v^
re: pets though... well, I love 'em!, but I am forcing myself to resist for a while, because it actually makes it a great deal more difficult to do things like those road trips... so, maybe someday down the line, but not for a while..
*chuckles about the tar pits* You mean that's illegal? :D ... My dad used to work next door to there, so we spent quite a lot of time there in our early years... heh!
The Rocket stuff sounds like a great idea too, which could go all sorts of directions!... I met someone recently who sells the remote control helicopter thing for about $200, and I am thinkin' about that... but I sorta wanna wait until it will go for more than 20 minutes per charge.. Calico is a hoot!... and I actually got some gold panning stuff a few years ago but still haven't there gone yet *blushes and rolls eyes*... I'd love to check out hiking trails on the west side of town too, as I've pretty much only done the eastern ones... I think I invited you for a hike or two? Have you been to the Bridge hike? ^v^ There's probably books and full-on journals of these Huell Howser-type things to do... I should look 'em up :>
Perhaps I should indeed investigate this.... I've been hearing about it the last few weeks, but I have no idea what it is... must be a happening, trending thing!
