Bye Bye, Little Aveo . .
Jul. 26th, 2011 04:47 pmYesterday, someone came barreling through a stop sign, and smashed up my little car. ;_;
I feel like I was hit by a drunk driver. You can drive carefully, but someone else can still come along and mess with your plans.
Please be extra careful out there, everybody :|
The air bag went off and worked well, although apparently if they deploy with a hole, they can spray scalding sulphur, so my hand was in agony for over 6 hours. I got some burn cream from the pharmacy, so I guess it might've been worse without it. I wished I'd known before, and could have hosed it off quickly to minimize it.
Many people came out from the houses, all very helpful, and the authorities were on the scene within 5 minutes.
The elderly lady who hit me was in a hurry so that she would not be late for her quilting class. She did not get there.
Photos behind the cut, ..

Date: 2011-07-27 12:28 am (UTC)When I lived in Florida, it was said that it was only a matter of WHEN, not 'if', that you'd be hit by an elderly person. I found that out to be true...I was t-boned by an elderly man who ran his stop sign because he 'didn't see me'. 0_o
I hope everything works out for you! *hugs*

Date: 2011-07-27 01:27 am (UTC)Yeah, there's no way they will repair an Aveo if it's involved in a collision with anything larger than a gnat.
Given the beater tank look of the truck, I hope she has insurance.

Date: 2011-07-27 02:32 am (UTC)I hate it when people run stop signs or red lights... it's just plain irresponsible. And you haven't seen really old drivers, I think... AFAIK in the US you have to renew your license every few years, including a physical evaluation, right? In Austria, it's pretty much: you passed your driving test, have fun. My mom's car got hit by our neighbour once while it was parked... because he "didn't see it".

Date: 2011-07-28 01:25 am (UTC)Yikes.
I'm terribly sorry about the accident, and for the loss of your car. I'm very glad that you and she are all right, though; that's the precious thing.
Please take care of yourself.

We have to be so careful out there on the road. So so careful.
I'm really glad you weren't hurt in the accident (save for the burning sensation on your hand).
*hugs*
(p.s. I tried to post this comment last night, but LJ kept timing out on me.)

Date: 2011-07-30 10:34 am (UTC)What is going on with insurance? Will hers reimburse you for this? Over KNITTING?? My word.......
The sad this is where I came from we had a LOT of senior citizens and the highest concentration of holocaust survivors. But Skokie was being built up to be more like Chicago without much distinction you LEFT Chicago an hour ago, and the seniors still drove as if it was a lazy village.
When impatient Chicago driver meets senior that doesn't react before the light changes it makes for a LOT of accidents.

I hate those suburban cross roads with the stop signs so many people run them or just don't see them so I always end up really paranoid around them.
