Just found out some possibly ecch blecch news with one of the dinners I like... :|

Subway Sandwiches. I figure, here is a full meal with all the food groups in it... yum... right?
I read the Nutrition pamphlet tonight, and woe of woe.. it looks like the one I like has way lots of sodium... ;P

It said the chicken-patty 6" on wheat is 750 mg on the meat and 400 mg in the bread... so getting the footlong sammich is maybe like around 2300 mg... (!!!).. and that's not even counting the other stuff yet! (lettuce, tomato, olive oil, pepper, parmesan, feta, provolone, oregano, cilantro)...

Luckily the other stuff (except the cheese) is very low sodium, but *sigh*... Still quite disappointing... :/ I may have to start getting the half-footlongs ....

Processed chicken is almost always loaded with salt. It's the only way to get it to taste like anything. :/

I generally don't pay too much attention to sodium, because I don't have high blood pressure, but it is pretty shocking how much of it is in a lot of processed foods.

Ack :/ I like Subway too, and I feel less guilty about it than eating a lot of stuff. But it doesn't seem like you can buy much these days that isn't loaded with salt or fat (especially because that's why stuff sells).

Oooog... way too much sodium for one meal. If you had a much lower sodium intake throughout the day, that one meal might not put things too far out of balance, but if not... O_O

how about switching to sourdough?

that is only 210 mg.

There is a subway next to the Intel Starbucks so, like you, I experiment...sweet onion sauce over mayo, a couple of other changes...(grin)....at least you have feta at yours!

Salt is in everything. Only way to really control what goes in is to make it yourself, but that's not always easy or convenient. I think even breathing is dangerous these days ;)

Now you see why restaurants were loathe to print the nutritional information of their foods on menus when it became a law. I'm not at a point where I need to watch my intake...but it's good to know, at the least. '_'

Restaurants load their food down with salt and fat, because that's what makes food taste good!

It's also why many people who cook at home think they suck at cooking. We all add in what we think are reasonable amounts of salt and fat, and the food tastes bland.

I noticed frozen meals are also quite high in sodium but not that high O.O
