swimming in celebration
Jul. 6th, 2002 01:37 amJuly 4th was really amazing... They usually are pretty great!
This year though, it seemed even stronger.. the sense of celebration.. even in the sluggish economy.. it just seemed sort of endless this time.. timeless..
One example seemed like a particularly striking observation to me..
I was driving down the 605 on the way to see the fireworks show at Disneyland, right as the sun had finished setting.. and ..all around me, there were fireworks going off, along both sides of the freeway.. nearly all the way down there, for the entire half hour drive. It was absolutely spectacular, and very invigorating.. I mean, it did occur to me, what if a rocket went the wrong way and zig zagged right into traffic!.. But the amazing feeling of being together as americans just sort of washed that all away, as I let myself be drawn into the patriotic moment..
And then at the park after arriving, the show was a magnificent finale to the evening!
After I got back home, the occasional snaps-crackles-and-pops were fading into a lullaby.. as I drifted to sleep..
Happy Independence Day.. to you all :> !

Fireworks!
Date: 2002-07-06 05:22 am (UTC)The 1/2-hour firework display on the 605 must've been a sight to see! And I'm glad there was no stray rocket to zig-zag through traffic! Think about all the commotion and accidents that could've occurred if a motorist was temporary blinded by an oncoming fire cracker!
Heehee! You certainly wouldn't want to be flying through all those firework extravaganza! I don't want to see my dear sweet C Eagle friend with his tailfeathers singed! :>
*nuzzlenuzzle coos*
Skreep!

Did get a bit close to a late exploding fountain once when much younger, but just got a few sparks on the wing..
Do you all have any holidays up there with fireworks, Lana?

Date: 2002-07-17 03:50 pm (UTC)Greetings, C Eagle! Sorry for the delay in replying to you! Busy week with Buran up in Toronto, and then Anthrocon shortly thereafter.
Glad to know you didn't get your feathers singed with the exploding fireworks. Bad idea for any bird!
We had the Canada's Day holiday (July 1st) with fireworks. It was the day our family was travelling back from Quebec City.
Looking forward to squawking with you soon! Take care, Birdy!
