I had the privilege hearing him and the group sing sometime back in the 1990s I think. The band itself was awesome, with bass guitar lines and backup singing that had a phenomenal quality. "The Angels Listened In" in stereo is still one of my all-time favorites.
And Johnny's voice was always powerful, clear and on-the-marque.
