Actually, I think it's Japanese?
There is a Russian Junglebook movie, called Maugli. I have it on DVD, but it's on youtube as well. Definitely interesting, much less US animation-inspired than this.

It's really an awesome animated series. I think it was produced in Japan for an European or just German TV channel.

It's Japanese. I watched the whole series in French years ago, just for the fat wolf who babysat the cubs. The theme song was also better in French. :-)
