an update for the sake of it..
Sep. 3rd, 2009 03:23 amAllo... :>
It's been a rather placid birthday, so now wrapping it up with a little posting...
Going with the stream of thought approach on this one..
- Didn't do very much today. Was going to pick my car up (it's at the shop) and head into work, but mom had one of those weird sleep days, causing me to lose sleep, so I never made it in. Being my birthday, I didn't feel too bad about it. They're a week behind on paychecks anyway right now.
- Speaking of the car, it's running fine and it was a regular checkup, except for one weirdness... either someone tried to break in, or my lock simply came loose and fell off, which needed fixing... really odd. ;P
- Had been hoping to see
makovette and his family, as well as
level_head and family, but didn't get a call while they were in the area. I presume their car trouble stepped on their plans... uncertain tho.
- Been enjoying reading the E.F. postings... seems like folks had a really great time! ^v^
- Found out Baskin Robbins doesn't just give you a free cone on your birthday with I.D. these days, gotta register online. No ice cream for me.
In an odd twist, one of my favorite restaurants spontaneously stayed open 90 minutes later than usual, so we got to eat there :9
- Filled some more holes in the driveway yesterday... yay. As boring as it sounds, it's quite a feeling of accomplishment to get that done, or anything in the yard really, particularly with the heat lately.
- Other bits of accomplishment have been due to helping Wikipedia locate and debug some new items in their system. The SUL does not work well with most browsers, so I've been helping them test scenarios.
- Helped one of my clients finally finish their doctorate (by helping with proofreading), so that's a good feeling too. *peep peep*
- Went through some old Betamax tapes yesterday and looked at some old stuff I've been meaning to do. That was fun also, in a sedate sort of way ^v^
- Got lotsa nice comments and notes here in LJ (a little over a dozen) with birthday wishes...! (Thanks, you'alls!!) ^v^ I put my birthday on LJ for the first time ever a few months ago, so that may have helped. Other folks may have had it on their personal calendars, but I admit that a nudge once in a while can help in a busy world and fast-paced lives we lead these days.
- Got 4 cards, one from the teeeeeerrific
lanakila ^v^ , two from pals with whom I used to work, and one automated one from my mom's bank. One of the cards from a former co-worker (whom I also went to school with) is nearly/practically a tradition now... and is the one whose birthday-greeting-art I have posted here a few times around this time of year (see the splendiferous art at the bottom of this entry). He and Lanakila's card were really uplifting! ^v^ Not only that, he called me one minute before midnight to wish me a happy birthday, and sent a box fulla ole-time-fun-disney dvds!! *knee wobble* ... It was nifty surprise, and was my only gift this year... so it's extry special. I guess they say birthdays have less fanfare as ya move along... except with maybe a few exceptions toward the later years, maybe. My dad had a swingin' bash at his 70th, and I know of some relatives who have had some big parties at their 50th... heh! Long way down the road, still.. ;D
- this just in!...from the newsdesk!
genecatlow reports seeing magical musical manifestations in NorthSide Park! ...film at eleven! (but yours to view right now!... Thank You, my friend, for the delightful birthdee art I just found in my mailbox moments ago!) .. ^v^
- the morning edition just arrived!... with this scoop!
jedd_marten was seen scurrying amidst the eskimos, on patrol for rare totem pole art... discoveries have been made!... In never-before seen footage, the critters are seen posing for an upcoming carve... (oh! so that's how they do dem all these years!) ...Word is that the Purrrrlitzer Prize is being considered for his amazing anthropological anthropomorphical announcement! Marlin Purrrrrkins, hold onto your hat!
- without further ado, here's the smashing arts! (hang-gliding IS rather uplifting!) :D

...I hope ya enjoy, and thanks for the good birthday vibes, everyone!

BHD!
Date: 2009-09-03 02:23 pm (UTC)Your day of accomplishments sounds a lot like my life these days: lots of little projects completed and just dealing with the heat and smoke and stuff.
So: what are your favorite local restaurants?
no subject
Date: 2009-09-04 01:06 pm (UTC)Restaurants eh? Well, our usual circuit is SoupPlantation, or Hometown Buffet, or Koo Koo Roo, or if we want good-for-ya AND fast.. Wendy's fits the bill pretty well. The one I spoke of in the entry above is Starlight Express, a really good asian diner... it's light years away from other restaurants in that it's prices are mind-bogglingly affordable too... :9

Yeah, car trouble ate effectively two days of our trip and totally re-jiggered the schedule. We ended up staying one extra night so LittleWolf and Wolftribe could spend a day at Universal City while I hung out at Castle Lockheart with LH and LA.
I suspect we'll back down that way eventually, hopefully with a functional crank position sensor this time :P
CYa!

Date: 2009-09-04 01:33 pm (UTC)Yesh, sorry ta hear dat.. and to have mist ya... :/
My cah has been in the shop for days too... that's one of the things I dread with a new/used cah... finding out whether a mechanic can handle things or not.. Picked it up yesterday after a scheduled service, and it had new noises, a rough acceleration, and the check engine light came on a few minutes after I drove off the lot.. ;P
It's back there today ... bleh.
but yeah!... I hope you've seen the last of faulty components for yours too...
Thanks for the birthday paw-pats!

Er, yer welcome to have my portion of the frosting! *sheepish grin* *gobbles up a piece of the cake underneath....*
Mmmmmmm!!! Great Cake! You can really bake! (I just don't know if that topping will catch on.... hehheh!!)
*hugs thanks for the wunderful arts and birthday greets!!* :D

There are some very good birthday pictures there :)
Do you have "Cold Rock Icecreamery" in the US? Go there instead of Baskin and Robbins. You can have mixins :D
