Been having some gradual issues with the vista machine... screen wouldn't come back from sleep sometimes.. it was intermittent and hard to trace..
I updated the bios (since they said it was a critical update), and it restarted fine.
The next day it went into a Won't-Start-Loop :/
Thank goodness I could do research on my good ole mac g4..

After gobs of reading and research though, the trails started to lead toward the battery, since many accounts said they were getting very short life spans in some cases, even as low as three months, and mine was 18 months old.

Some computers won't even run without a battery, a good battery, even if plugged in. My mac 6100 is like that. Would this be one of those machines?

So I took the battery out.

Now ... it seems like it runs TWICE as fast as before! :D
*whew* ...nice to have a silver lining after a tenuous situation.... ... ... *peep!*

I hope this info can help soem of you also... if your machine acts odd, check the battery, or even the motherboard wafer battery before egg speckting the worst ^v^

allo! :D
Well... let's see.... 1) hit power button, 2) hear sound, 3) it shuts down (then attempts to restart) without even showing the pre-windows BIOS option window (Phoenix Technologies)..
Luckily I remembered that with this one, the option is F-10, so that did show me the bios setup, but there was nothing there awry, so I just shut it down and tried the de-battery method. *wurrble*

I have two macs (at least) that won't start even if plugged in, without a sufficiently juiced battery, so it's among my debug checklist things to do :}

I didn't check the cmos battery for this yet, but I see they're on sale online for $8 ... although I couldn't find one at the HP site :D ! ...might be needed down the road.. but those tend to last much longer..
The main battery in laptops tends to be filled with circuitry these days, so that can also affect the power scheme, fan cycling, etc.

C ya soon!

Hmmm, there's been a couple of times where I login to my Vista (Ultimate) desktop, and the screen...just stays black, but the mouse cursor's there. I can Ctrl+Alt+Del, log off, do a restart, and the next time I login, I get me desktop once again. Happened earlier today, actually. Curious...

Hooray :) The motherboard battery usually gives symptoms like going back to default bios settings.

Where is this other battery?
