Thanks for sharing.
When I lived in Hawaii, I was always struck by simply how clean it was all kept. The locals would get up early on the the weekends and walk the highways picking up all the trash that the tourists would toss, and all around set a good example. Clearly the waters aren't as easy to pick up after them.
It is pretty mind boggling that a chick could be fed that much, to be sure. But it'll definately be another factor to consider when we're looking at what's happening with some of the species out there.
Lastly, when you see pieces like Plastic Ocean as being reported on, but no country stepping up to the plate to try and fix it, you realize what an uphill battle that we're facing here with such things.
Thanks for sharing,

If the population was reduced to 100 people what would the population be made of?

Change our behavior and give up our wrappers and snappers and doodads? The sooner, the better.

The worst offenders are the plastic tops you see one drinks. Usually those caps are made from a different grade of plastic that is not easily recyclable and it's not uncommon for them to wind up being disposed of en masse.

It's for USA customers only, I got a message telling me I can't watch. :(

Maybe not a bad thing, given the comments...

Sorry feller... yeah, it's about a lil' bird whose mumma feeds it, mistakenly, so much plastic trash that it doesn't survive very long... :/

This reminds me of a sign in the Denver Zoo, asking people to please not throw things in the water. It was the contents of a whale's belly, which had died and washed up on the shore. Among the things found therein were lots of little plastic doodads, and a sizeable pile of money. Wishing well indeed. :(

Kind of easy sometimes to forget we live in such a "throw away" society. Don't dare think of the trash that a single fast food restaurant generates in a week cause it all gets buried in a land fill somewhere so we don't have to see it. That means it's not really there, right? ^_^

And this is why we recycle (and try to reduce what we buy that's "throwaway") as much as we possibly can.

It's a tricky question because, in many cases, it ends up being more environmentally damaging to recycle the stuff than to just landfill it. The real problem is so much of it isn't being properly disposed of at all, but instead is ending up being washed into the ocean.

*sigh* So very sad, and that's just the tip of the iceberg. MILLIONS, MILLIONS of birds die from this every year. :{ 25% of our planet is covered in plastic. I'm glad someone already linked to the 'Plastic Ocean' article. It's scary, scary stuff.
