Curious, indeed. Is it a matter of government subsidy, or are oil producers in Asia forced to sell their product inside the country of origin? Given the choice, I'm sure that the oil companies would rather sell it in the US or Europe for $3/gallon, rather than $1.50ish.
Nah, that Australian figure is bogus, as are the European figures. Last week when I looked, the price in Sydney was USD$5-6/gal, and it was about $8/gal in London.

~4 litres in a gallon, from what I remember.. so that makes the price about $6 ish.
