Mar. 15th, 2008 05:24 amAnd it may be old news to many, but just in case, for any folks who haven't noticed or checked, besides LJ doing that doofus thing of removing Basic accounts, they have long had unexpanded threads in some form or other for quite a while (when a post goes over a certain number of comments).
Now I'm not sure, but I think in the older code, if you saved a page in html, you saved what you saw. But, nowadays, if you Expand a thread, while it's handy for viewing online, if you intend to SAVE the article that way, it isn't being saved that way at all. Same goes for either I.E. and Firefox. Only way I know of to save a fully expanded thread is by the old messy select-all-copy-paste to a text file ;/
Needless to say I don't expect to be doing that often, but I thought you should know, in case there have been any articles so notable you intended to save em. Chances are, they ain't there :/

Date: 2008-03-15 10:06 pm (UTC)Just a pity they couldn't find some old school way to include a link to open a fully expandable and save-able version of a page... arf arf!

Date: 2008-03-15 06:15 pm (UTC)javascript:x=document.body.innerHTML.replace(/</g,'<').replace(/\n/g,'
'); document.body.innerHTML = x;
And then save that text to a file (copy/paste onto notepad)
I haven't tested it works on Livejournal, but it should.

Date: 2008-03-15 10:09 pm (UTC)Thanks for the code goody, me friend! *hugs*
Thing is though, the saved version still doesn't seem to translate locally to an htm file, so it's a bit wonky to look at, just like my method of select-all-copy-paste ... so I guesh there must be no full workaround for it.. :/

Date: 2008-03-15 10:16 pm (UTC)The problem is you don't have the CSS (stylesheet), I believe.
It is possible to expand that to save that together with your local file... but it may be a bit overkill :P

Date: 2008-03-15 10:33 pm (UTC)I forgot to mention, you have to save that to a file with the html extension.
If you're using notepad, you may have to surround the file name with quotes, for example after doing a save (or save as)
"MyConversation.html"
