I sometimes use the exaggeration "An house is not an home" to illustrate the misuse of the article before the consonant "H", because arrogant newscasters and commentators tend to say things like "An historic moment" to sound like they know english better than the rest of us.... but I actually heard one say 'an house' just now on tv.... arrrgh! :P

An honor ... correct
An homage ... correct
An host, an hobnail, an hovercraft ... wrong

(the article preceding the H is guided by whether it is silent, and thus used as a vowel, or emphasized as a consonant)
