ceagleCalgon, take me awa... oh wait, I've used that line.
geeesh though,.. what a week. We usually try to use the fireplace to minimize heating costs, but this last year it had gotten so smoky that it was just impossible.
Finding the right service tech was an adventure too ;P
The first guy came in swaggering, letting us know that this was built wrong, and that was made wrong, and then when he looked down the flue, he said it was too much for him, and declined the job.. at least he didn't charge us since he was local.
The next guy I called started telling me "oooooh, how they so have the better business bureau rating, and ooooooh, how he'd have to call us after a week, when they got less busy and the weather changed.."
A week went by... nothin'.
With the third call, we got lucky though. They came in with a great attitude, humble, capable, fast.. wow. what a contrast!!
So the very next day...... no hot water... *rarrgh*
Today our favorite (and very honest) plumber comes, and he changes the heating element that looks to be failing on his test equipment. The escape valve explodes on us all when he opens it... calcium, lye and rusty water all over everyone, especially him. :D
Turns out that wasn't enough though.. he still needs a thermostat. His supplier says they have one.. so he goes there.
Comes back a half hour later and says they have the wrong one, so... he says I should make some calls and just fix the rest myself. He knocks 2/3 off the price and takes off to his next appointment. So I start making calls.
3 hours later I find the part, and go get it.. an hour later it's installed. Nice hot water.
BUT. The electrical breaker is still failing, so it doesn't stay on, and doesn't stay hot.. like it was doing before we called him. Soooo.. is there something still wrong with the water heater.. or.. with the breaker box? *beak into wings* .. Guess that's what I'll be investigating this week.
ooops, wait! first I get to charge me car battery, since sometimes mum doesn't quite close the door all the way... ;P
No super duper need to comment on this'n... do so if ya like... just sorta venting/documenting.
