I've been wanting to do this for some time, so here off the cuff, is a leetle list of which I feel currently could be considered my top ten favorite songs...
10 You Do or You Don't ... Lindsey Buckingham
9 Anchorage ... Michelle Shocked
8 Crazy Without You ... Pure Heart
7 Wolfgang ... Pete Droge
6 The Angels Listened In ... Crests
5 Lodi ... CCR
4 The Way the World Would Be ... Glenn Yarbrough
3 I Should Have Known Better ... Beatles
2 Truly Do ... David Lindley
1 Summer and Lightning ... ELO
There's probably a lot more ELO, CCR and Beatles that could go here too :> I'd highly recommend checking out any of these that ya haven't heard of yet, also. Of course this sort of list changes throughout one's life, but this is a pretty good summation of 'em for now :>
Hope ya enjoyed!...
Now how about yours? :D (or comments/questions on these songs are welcomed too...)

Random madness
Date: 2003-02-02 08:14 am (UTC)Hey Jude The Beatles -- Great song... It's one of those songs that just has been there wheen I needed to find hope SOMEWHERE. St. Jude is the patron saint of lost causes, and this song was actually written for Julian Lennon when he was six years old, to maybe give him a little bit of comfort in the time where his parents were getting divorced.
Just a Little Bit The Maranatha! Kids -- When I was younger, we listened to a lot of Bible song tapes in the car. The tape that this came from was REALLY good (Famous Kids of the Bible), but this song is especially inspiring.
Suzy Fool's Garden -- German group who scored a #1 on the German charts with "Lemon Tree" in 1996 (which happened to coincide with the first time I came to Germany). This song, however, just reminds me a lot about how I don't have to be perfect to be loved.
Benzai-Tan Blackmore's Night -- This is one that can get me crying, because it's so achingly beautiful. Blackmore's Night is a group that does a lot of combining renaissance and folk, and this song has a Japanese twist to it, about a demi-goddess (or something) who married a dragon king in order to save mankind.
Here Comes the Sun The Beatles -- Absolute perfection in a song.
Life Is Sweet Natalie Merchant -- Bittersweet, but hopeful.
If It Makes You Happy Sheryl Crow -- My theme song my freshman year of college.
Closing Time Semisonic -- Great.
One of Us Joan Osborne -- She makes a very good point in a really good song.
The Boxer Simon and Garfunkel -- I'm a fighter too.
(Okay, I couldn't stop)
Bad, Bad Leroy Brown Jim Croce -- So much fun, and a "hometown" song.

I've got a page about some of my favourite songs, which can be found here. This is by no means complete either.

*L* I really dislike "In the Ghetto" by Elvis. I'm from inner-city Chicago. Yes, it's tough. But at the same time, the song makes it seem like it's inevitable that somebody who is born there never has a chance to do anything with their life. I promise you, it IS hard. But falling into the vicious circle is *NOT* inevitable. Secondly, it's ELVIS singing the song. He grew up in the South, in the country, and by the time he sang that song, he had more money than he'd ever know what to do with, so I don't see how he could have any *real* understanding needed to go with the song. /rant
Re: Random, but cool, list
Date: 2003-02-02 10:32 pm (UTC)Ah.. (re: 'Ghetto') ... Although I do like the lyric in this song, it usually isn't among the top things that make or break a song for me. it's definitely a bonus if it works, but then it's like, ya get to enjoy and nice poem along with the song :> Actually it's more than that ;>
I can see how that song can be seen as a generalization too, yeah.. For me I just take it as a specific set of incidents story. True it doesn't offer any concrete solutions other than 'people dontcha understand, the child needs a helping hand' :| (I don't think Elvis wrote many, if any of his songs too)..
So I guess ultimately I wanted to put at least one Elvis song in there just because I like so many of them, and I like the arrangement and melody in this one particularly *warble*
Thanks for the extra commentary though! :>
