I'm not just quoting Chas. Brown either... :/

Left the house in mom's car to take her on some medical appointments... after a few hours we arrive back to see that my car's right side brake light is stuck in the on position. Spontaneously.

Opening the door, I see that there are a number of partially chewed rubber grommets in bits and pieces on the floor. Aha.
keeerap. ;P

Stepping on the brake won't activate nor switch off the light. Cannot spot the damage yet. Must remove car seat.

Now it's raining. (I can see the applause light)... arrrgh!

Nasty, that. You'd think rats would be afraid of hanging out around the eagle nest, though ... maybe they're trainees.

Er, rubber has nothing to do with the light. This is more likely a wiring short -- you'll need to get a multimeter and trace the circuit. Or check the brake switch itself -- this is a semi common problem in some VWs (and is caused by the switch behind the brake pedal arm being bad). But if you're spotting damaged rubber it may be a circuit issue -- but do look at the switch too.

*peeps*
Thanks for the thoughts, bud.. yeah. Oddly though, I'm hopeful about this one, hoping to also fix an intermittent short around there with the A/C and panel lights.
At least it didn't keep me from getting to some appointment this time, like a flat tire or something..

yupyup... I think they chewed through the rubber first, and then the wires.

The switch in that area is pretty new, but if it was tasty, it might be toast by now, yeah.... :/

and yup! We had a few VWs... had lotsa fun times, and a few unexpected adventures, too.
them open wire fuses.. eeesh! :D
