a mixed bag o' bunnies
Mar. 28th, 2005 04:33 amI hope you all had a nice Easter.. :>
Mine was mostly caught up in battling (for a customer) one of he worst viruses I've seen since last Summer (the last time one had gotten so entrenched I couldn't remove it). And that finally happened again :/
They had let their virus definitions expire.
This one acted really fast, too. They had simply clicked on a website about mortgage services, and programs started dropping like flies. Pretty soon the disk couldn't be accessed at all, file names were no longer displayed, DOS wouldn't run... startup rescue disks wouldn't work, safe mode went bogus... even ctrl-alt-delete wouldn't display right 8|
Anybody seen or hearda this? I'm itchin' to know what it was!
It was vicious, and climbed right into XP-sp2 also like it was swiss cheese.
I had hoped to use the built-in restore point with XP, but there was no way to get there in this case (unless you know). I think in this situation only the primal-loading Go-Back would have helped. This machine was shredded. *sigh*
The re-install went flawlessly at least.
All their machines now have Go-Back, new defs, anti-spy, pop-up block, firewall, and a backup-set system in place.
If It Ain't Broke
In other grumbly news, my favorite search meta (ixquick) has changed to a very SLOW new format. I will have to join the bandwagon and start using (the slightly less-accurate) Google if I don't want to pull all my teeth out waiting.
Oh yeah, beak.. no teeth :> *warble*
But *sigh*... Yahoo groups ALSO reworked their layout, and now it'sa a muddled disaster, ..not unlike the early days of ICQ (mirabilis), long considered one of the worst pages years ago.
Why when things work well... do people have to mess widdit? arf! ;P
Fun Things Too, Though!
Watching Animal Planet tonight, there was a show called Whoa Sunday filmed by BBC in Bristol, 2004... and it had lots of neeeet stuff, including info on how seal whiskers can find fish in the dark, 5 minutes after their wake... and aerial shots of a golden eagle flight.. from cameras attached to its back! *fluffles all up*
Furry Dasani
Sponsors on that show included Dasani water, which has launched a campaign with comical furry-kinda costume acts, and even if they aren't all that great, the comedy lines are fairly good :>
Thus far they have a dog and a bear.
"Deliciousness Itself!" ...Mark Twain
And custard fruit is in season again! (this is NOT durian)
All is not lost :9
Take Care!
