but I just saw two things I hadn't before.
For years we've heard coyotes howling in the hills.. but last night they were so loud it was hard to believe.. dogs barking like crazy too..
So I looked outside and right there in the intersection were 7 coyotes yippin' at full volume at two dogs behind a fence. The 'yotes stood their ground for almost 5 minutes, before they all re-convened and then trotted down the street.

Then just as I rounded the last few corners coming home, I saw a baby fox in the middle of the road.. Baby animal proportions! Huge tail and little body :) It stood there for about ten seconds before running into the bushes.

Cool wildlife stuffs.. *wags*
I enjoy reading about the wildlife encounters on walks [livejournal.com profile] calicougar and [livejournal.com profile] martes take now and then, too.

Gawrsh!... *hugs* I sorry... 8|
How long ago were you out here..?

Yer cat chased 'em?? Woohoo!! We used to have a cat that chased coyotes too! *scritchscritch* :>
She survived 17 years with that strategy :)

Your wunnerful comment reminded me of two more coyote recollections..

The kinda odd one first,... we used to have a broken down car waiting for refurbishing (it eventually got fixed up) in our garage... One of our cats actually had her kittens in it once *warble*
But one day years later, my mom noticed some odd sounds and activity around the car... She'd see something now and then, but it was so alien she wasn't sure what it was.., Eventually she called animal control to see if they could help, or help it.. whatever it was..
They said it was a mangey coyote! (yes, like they say in the cartoons).. But they'd never seen such a bad case before.. 80-90 percent of its fur was gone.. poor thang!.. they took it away and hopefully they helped it.. but that's why my mom never could recognize it.

The other story is more fun, like the coyote friend you had :> *warble* A friend of mine and I were driving in Death Valley, out on a long stretch of empty land in a convertible.. and suddenly a coyote came out of nowhere and started running after us..! We slowed the car quite a bit and he just trotted alongside us.. it was really unusual!.. We tossed him some sliced meat from the cooler.. and he seemed glad to get it. We weren't sure if it was rabid or not, but we hope it was just, extra friendly, and needed the food. :>

Hope ya get to see more of the west coast again as time rolls along!
