This may finally be it
Mar. 5th, 2025 09:31 pmFor years I've been confidently alerting people that MSoft has been lying about not updating Windows 7. For years it has been updating my computer with updates, mostly to the Security.
It's a bit early to tell for sure, but today might be the end of the line. The auto-update system isn't working, and even the manual update doesn't work, which is usually a reliable fallback. Or else I've forgotten a step that worked before.
There's also a chance that this update is faulty.
In any case, I'll have to see how things pan out over the next few days (or weeks).
*sigh*

Date: 2025-03-08 03:30 am (UTC)I gotta say it's been nice that they have actually been supporting their product (W7) and protecting us, even though the official stance was to abandon everyone many years ago.
It looks like it's verified-by-proxy on their Forums.... even though there doesn't seem to be an official announcement I can find, I did locate a posting followed by several thousand people already, stating that they encountered the exact same problem starting March 4th :\
I also checked with my i7 windows7 machine yesterday, and after using it for half hour, the Windows Protection Service self-destructed, just like with my main machine.
It looks like the way they are killing it is that they send out an update to their service and disable it at the time it usually updates, and will not allow new updates to work, even if installed manually.
I think they have modified the format of the updates so that they are no longer compatible with the service, and no new service is available for W7.
Time to consider third party solutions.
