after much thought.... no.

this was one of those nights so many of you have probably experienced too.... pouring your heart and mind into a long and thoughtful essay for LJ, and then suddenly seeing it vanish.
No teacher to give you an F. No class to fail.
Worse has happened to others, so I know it's not much to suffer upon myself... but for the moment, it still stings.

so I guess I'll sleep on it.
tomorrow.. is... another day.

hmmmm... I think I might've even heard that somewhere before....

from now on, resolution: regular clipboard saves... not just before hitting that final send button.

That happens to me a lot on replies, or updates. I get that lovely "Page cannot be displayed" message when I hit update. :/

I've made it a habit now to *always* save to clipboard; even short entries, and long ones I'll even paste into notepad just in case the browser crashes or closes suddenly for no reason (which happens on rare occasion)...I've just lost too many entries in the past for me to ever risk doing it again. :( *snuggles tight*

I'm sorry.. I hate when that happens as well. :( If I'm writing a lot, I've kind of gotten into the habit of copying my text into the clipboard periodically, because that helps sometimes.

:( Hope things are going better now.

LJ Text and Saving Occasionally

*SNUGS YOU TIGHTLY!*

Eeep! I'm so sorry to hear about your thoughtful and heart-felt essay disappeared from sight. *whimpers* Accursed Live Journal software. :P

With all the writing that I do, I usually type all of my LJ entries in Word, saving occasionally, before uploading the text into Live Journal. That way, in case of a power failure (which happened last night), or computer hiccups, you'd always have a saved copy somewhere.

It's regretful to read how you've lost all of your text. :( *snuggles the iggle tightly*

Urgh. Don't forget that you can use the 'BACK' button to regain things, sometimes.

And yeah... if I'm writing anything that takes more than a few minutes, I actually write it offline in a text editor. I have a lot less trouble with the LJ client than with the website, but still... it only takes a couple of those to convince you 'never again'.

*snugs*

I'm sorry to hear you lost your Journal, friend. There is a utility out there for Semagic that lets you compose you LJ entries, format them with all the extra features that a word processor can't easily duplicate, and save them to your hard drive. It even lets you compose entries while not online! Got to http://www.livejournal.com/download/ for more details. Hope this helps, friend =0)

Awww. That's happened to me before too, so a save to clipboard before hitting send is just part of the routine. Unfortunately, not so routine that I always remember. I'm telling you, the next time it happens I am just going to post some old, ancient things I had to write in college.

Boring things. ;p

Awwww....

In this instance, he was working on a comment to another entry.

The client software I'm familiar with does not address this, but I'd love to see one that does.

As well as editing ability for comments!

This comment is for both you and c-eagle.

Might I suggest that you download Semagic and use that for your posting needs? It is a stand alone program that lets you post to livejournal... pick icons... set moods... get the music your playing ect as well as tracking things like peoples birthdays and how has friended and unfriended you.

It is a very good program and you wouldn't get any more of them Page Cannot be displayed... just a little box that says... can't upload, try again. But you don't loose any of your data.

I hate when that happens. It's very depressing.

Because of that, I often compose my biggies in KWord and then cut-n-paste into LJ.

My Athlon 700 was locking up more and more often - it was a dual monitor outfit, and last week I had TWO livejournal entries I was working on at the same time in two different journals (using two different browsers of course) It locked up and I lost it all.

So yesterday I gutted the thing and it's now a 2.2 Gig P4. I figure it will take 3 or 4 days of overtime to pay for it, but I won't lose any more data.

Two of the best LJ entries I ever wrote - also gone. And I didn't have the energy to rewrite them again either.

I've always cut-and-pasted my LJ stuff from
more places than I can count... this is being
done on WordPad right now, other posts have
come from my PalmPilot, one of many laptops,
my pen-based art box, all over the place.

You might also consider typing long entries out in a text editor, and saving it as you work, then pasting the entire thing when you're done. That's what I do, but I'm too lazy to bother to download something special for the purpose. ;>

C_Eagle: I've lost your email, can you send me a quick one (when you get a chance) so I can ask you something privately?
