After I finished with some errands for a few hours, I settled in for an evening of LJ and email... voila, no more blackouts. Tonight anyways.
So it seems like the most likely thing is a short in the screen hinge ;P
Ergo the puzzle of the future. Izzit worth fixing? Prolly not.. well outa warranty.
I could leave it open a lot more often. I kinda like that idea, despite it getting more dusty, at least I could be more assured of reliable use.
However, hey... it's a laptop. arf! I generally haul this around (in its nice case of course) to do my work, and now I gotta start feeling guilty and walking on glass just to keep it portable? *sigh*
Putting the two options on the scales, I'd rather have a dependable screen, so I s'pect I'll haveta keep this touchy tablet relegated to the home more often.
I'll keep ya posted, and thanks again for your helps n comments! :>

I load that up about once a week, yup... works just about as well as anything else, silly... *preens n fuzzles ya..*
Mebbe one of these years I'll actually catch you on there at the same time too!

Date: 2004-03-26 11:13 pm (UTC)Indeed, its veritable *being* has transmogrified into something other than it was before... an easy-goin' fun-travelin' useful laptop, to a questionable easy-does-it-or-it-may-croak homebody... *erf*
sorry to hear you went thru something like that too... *hugs*

Date: 2004-03-26 11:16 pm (UTC)When I get a chance, I'll do a bit more research to see what the prognosis is on this one... whether this is happening to a lot of 'em, and if it's an easy, inexpensive fix or not...
thanx for the churrin' advice!

Thanks for the kind hurrahs! :D

Date: 2004-03-27 10:16 am (UTC)related to the hinge, those problems can sometimes
be amazingly easy to fix! Hinge cables for many
laptops are easily replaceable (it pertaints to the
one moving part of the laptop, go figure!) and often
it isn't securely plugged in at one end. I've fixed
many of the ThinkPads I own by swapping/isolating/
ordering parts, and it isn't rocket science! (At
least not for ThinkPads...) <:)

Mebbe we kin poke around with this rig a bit and see if that might be it, when we don't have as many things on our plates...
Thanks Cat! *scritches fur*
