99 salvation

I may have touched on this topic before... but, well.... the 99cent stores have gone a long way to offset the sluggish increase in wages over the last decade or three..

Mainly, by bringing us staples and items we used to Always pay a lot more for... the stores have thankfully delivered us many things at their true value, allowing our economy to cope on some levels at least.

I have a LOT of toothpaste :D
For years it was well over 3 times the price of 99c

Bleach, Laundry Detergent, Bars of Soap, Tissue, Reading Glasses, many food items, and even Batteries have been a blessing... many things used to cost sometimes even 20 times as much!

Not everything has been great of course... off-brand videotape and clocks.. those are always bad. But most things have been such help. Dunno about you all, but I haven't really had a raise in about ten years, so every little bit helps.

Then again, once I get stocked up on minty toothpaste, I discover the splendor of BubbleGum flavored toothpaste (full price)... hah!.. what to do? :D

I always just shop the sales at the regular grocery store to get the most for my money. I did stop at a Dollar Tree to get some aluminum foil in an emergency. It was $1 for 25 feet. When I went to my supermarket it was $3.25 for 75 feet. So, yes, it was a little more, but not a HUGE savings. And the extra $0.25 was worth it to not have to deal with all of the bums and shady people lurking around the dollar store.

Speaking of such...Kitty and I stopped at a Dollar Tree to get supplies for a room party at Califur. There was a bum in front of us who was buying rubbing alcohol and fruit punch. Mmmm! The $2 cocktail!
