restaurant peeve

Did I mention this before?
A pet peeve of mine is, ...when you are dining somewhere and they start Vaccuuming, Sweeping, or Mopping with a heavy ammonia etc... ;P

Exceptions:
- outside in a picnic-like setting, casual sweeping is expected
- if there's a big spill that needs immediate attention
- 24-hour restaurants, gentle cleaning during light attendance is expected

Otherwise... ecccch with the dust cloud and chemical odors!

If it's not a 24-hour restaurant, and it's getting near closing time, that can sometimes be a somewhat subtle hint that you're being "that guy" and need to finish up so they can go home. :P

Thankfully this hasn't happened to me in a while though last year some waitress accidentally almost spilled water all over my clothes.... and I had a soccer jersey on! Thankfully I only got a little water on my shoes and that was it. :)

Also: Rolling a cart up to a dirty table, taking the dirty dishes and dumping them into a plastic bin with a clattering crash.

For that pleasant ambience of a school cafeteria/correctional institution to add to your upscale dining experience X-P

I thought I was the only one! It seems inevitably, as soon as I walk in or start eating my meal anywhere, someone starts sweeping around my feet with a broom, or pushing one of those manual carpet sweepers under my table, or turns on a floor washer that puts out 100 dB of shrieking noise, all the while going clak-clak-clak over the floor tiles. So damn rude!

Srsly... I don't like being 'that guy' so yeah I will leave if it seems -that- might be the reason.... In fact if a restqaurant seems really empty, I often ask if they are gonna close early and I'd be glad to leave if so.

A lot of time around here though, restaurants usually will tell us they allow diners to finish up a certain amount of time after the closing hour, so it's built into the hours. It's usually about 20 minutes (give or take) after closing around here.

Good observation!

Usually it's the vaccuuming I might observe, but this time it was mopping with an extremely heavy mix of Pine Sol... so that's the only taste and smell while trying to eat food.. and it was a full hour before closing!
